I'll have to mull my final four over for a few days...better make it soon, since I'm heading out to New Orleans for the South Region 1st and 2nd rounds this Thursday!
I know this for sure: either Stanford or Arizona will get upset early. A Pac-10 team always does. I don't know which yet. Also, at least one 10 seed will beat a 7 and maybe go even further, and Gonzaga is, as always, a super-value pick. I'm not saying they're going to beat Virginia in round 1, but...
It was sure nice to see Duke beat that UNC butt HARD in person yesterday...the Carolina fans were leaving like rats jumping off a sinking ship by 15:00 to play in the game.
Of course, since I hate the FL Gators, I guess I'll have to pull for UNC in the south. *Bitter*

After much exhaustive analysis and dart-throwing, my final four (a couple of strange picks, but I have my reasons--and plus it's more fun that way!)
East: Duke (but I'm worried about their depth!)
West: Arkansas (yes, Arkansas!)
Midwest: Illinois
South: Oklahoma (yes, Oklahoma!)
Illinois over Oklahoma, Duke over Arkansas.
If Duke gets to the final, Shane Battier will make the plays the Devils need to win.

I think there are going to be a lot more upsets this year. I have two #1 seeds in the final four. I have teams like St. Joe's and Gonzaga winning a couple games.

My bracket looks unbelievable right now. yesterday, I only missed two games. I also predicted Kent State beating Indianna.

I think Duke will be gone first. Why? They have to play Kentucky. I think Kentucky is one of the hottest teams in the nation. I think that their defense could contain Duke, and pull off the upset.

Yeah! I like what I'm hearing. Being a huge Kentucky fan, I'm thrilled other fans also are finally giving Kentucky some respect.
Kentucky and Duke should advance and play each other. Let me say this: Duke, we WANT revenge... :)

I too love Kentucky. We do want revenge from 92 or 93 when Laetner made that lucky shot. :(

I would love for Kentucky to win against Duke if they both make it that far. But of course if they both make it to that game they will repeatedly show that Laetner shot in 92. Kentucky is hot right now..I hope they can keep it up! :)

What I meant was no one talked about Kentucky has being a national powerhouse this year... no one even considered them to win a championship this year.
So, back on topic, what is your Final Four?
Mine:
Kentucky
Kansas
Maryland
Michigan State

Didn't Kentucky GET revenge in '98? I remember something about overcoming a 17-point deficit against Duke in the Regional Final in St. Pete, then going on to a National Championship in Tubby Smith's first season? If that's not enough, the ghost of Laettner will never be exorcised.
BTW, I'm a huge Duke fan and hope they go all the way...and I would LOVE to see Gonzaga come out of the South. That would be awesome. They are smart, well-coached, and play good fundamental team basketball. They have cute cheerleaders, too.

How quickly Kentucky fans can forget about that win and yet we'll never forget about that Laettner shot. That was the best game in college basketball history, no doubt, too bad I was too young nine years ago to really get into it. Tubby needs another championship to get that little nick on his shoulder off - people say he only won a championship that year because he had Pitino's players.

Kentucky = gone... where are all the big talkers now? ;)
Tom Baker

It just seems that even AFTER '98, if KY fans still hunger for revenge, it will never be sweet enough to erase that bitterness. I vividly remember watching the '92 Regional Final and hanging on every shot. What a game--although, for my money, Duke's 79-77 victory over previously undefeated UNLV in the previous year's Final Four was a better game.
Oh well, no rematch this year. I knew KY would come back against USC, but you have to give USC credit for not folding--once KY was within 1, I thought for sure they would just pull ahead and the Trojans would be looking at their taillights.
If there was any doubt that Jason Williams is the best player in the college game, it should now be erased. 19 points in a row, what can you say?!? Battier is player of the year, but Williams is the BEST player.

So how about the Pac-10 in the N.C.A.A. Tournament so far? They're 11 and 2 in the Tournament so far and have 3 of the Elite Eight teams. Props to them.
You know I'd like to see Stanford use a 2-3 zone a lot against Maryland today. I wish they had done that a lot more against Cincinnati because the Bearcats couldn't hit an outside shot. If the Cardinal had employed the zone a lot more in that game than just at the end I think they would have beaten Cincinnati going away. Satterfield was awesome for Cincinnati though.

My picks:
Illinois
Duke
MSU
Maryland
If they win, I should win some money in my pool. Illinois losing and MSU losing would be GREAT for my sake in my pool too. But these are just who I think will win.

What do you guys think about Duke/Maryland part 4. I actually had this in my final 4 and I have Duke winning it.

I can't wait. It should be a great one and maybe come down to the last possession like the A.C.C. Tournament game. I'd love to see that.
Man awesome game by Lonny Baxter today. Stanford just couldn't stop him. Hopefully, he'll have the same kind of game against Duke.
Not surprised at all that Stanford lost. In fact, I had them picked to lose this game in my brackets. I just think Stanford is always soft and flops in late March.
That Arizona game should be a dandy tomorrow.

Wouldn't that be interesting having a Big Ten game and an ACC game in the final four as in Illinois vs. MSU and Duke vs. Maryland. I think that would be sweet!

Well, the Michigan State Spartans have joined Duke and Maryland in the Final Four. Now I have 3 of 4 correct. Although I don't have Illinios nor Arizona in my pools.

(To the Arizona Wildcat players) win it for Bobbi Olson, kids!

A tough game to call. There's more than one way to look at it.
Md might have confidence they can run with Duke. Really, they should be 2-1 or even 3-0 against the Devils this season. So there should be no real intimidation factor.
At the same time, they have only beaten them one out of three, even though all the games were winnable for them--and that once was when Duke lost Boozer and was in a state of shock. The Duke team is mentally stronger now.
So Md might be tight, knowing that they had three good shots at Duke and only won one. That means they may think they have to play perfect basketball to win. Gary Williams' tight demeanor certainly won't help. And this is also Maryland's first Final Four EVER. Hard to win it your first time out, although UConn did two years ago...against Duke.
A close, tough, potentially great game, but I like Duke's experience. With Coach K's nine Final Fours on the bench and Battier on the floor--unless he gets into foul trouble--I like Duke to win a squeaker.
NickHammy

I agree, I think it will be a very close game, but I still think that Duke will pull it off.
