For example -- OK, the Boston Celtics tried to do it for Tim Duncan a few years ago, and failed. Chicago did it last year. The Atlanta Hawks are trying it this year. They traded Dikembe for Theo / Toni / Nazr / Pepe. Theo's hurt. They know that. They're sitting him and a couple others out ALL year to "rest up". Most importantly, without someone like Theo in there, you won't win. You'll lose. You'll get a better chance at the #1 pick.
In my opinion, I think it really sucks that teams really try to do bad just to get the #1 pick. It's unfair to the players. It's unfair to the fans. It's unfair to coaches who are going to be fired at the end of the year anyway. Stupid owners. But what can you do about it?
I'm at least happy there's the lottery. Unlike football, you can never automatically have the top pick. Then again, you could end up with the worst chance of getting a top pick (a la Charlotte last year down by #13) and end up getting the #3 pick. Teams with a so-so chance at a playoff spot try hard, which makes me happy.
What can we do (if there even is a hope) ... to somehow stop these teams from just "throwing the season away"? Any ideas? Any hope?
