I'm continuing my series of threads on this forum to try to get it a little more active. The series will consist of a new thread every week, each highlighting an "unknown" sport -- one that gets very little popularity, but absolutely no reason to hide in the dark versus major sports like football, baseball, and hockey. Express your thoughts on these sports in this series of threads.
Part #5: Figure Skating
My Take: A while ago, I said I enjoyed every sport at the Winter Olympic Games... well, I do, but figure skatings is most definitely dead last (or darn near it) in my list of "favorite sports" at the games.
I just don't like it, but there is a great deal of skill and endurance involved which means, every once in a while, I may even surprise myself and watch a few "dances" ... of course, though, only if "The King," Elvis (Stojko, that is! :) ... for all you Americans or anyone who's never heard of him, it's pronounced "Stoiko"), is skating.
I do admire the quads when they're performed... the twirls they do on the ice... how DO they DO that!?... amazing!
This week, the World Figure Skating Championships are being held in Vancouver, BC, and it is of course being broadcasted on CTV, so I will probably end up watching the men's finals.. but only Elvis' skate.
What does everyone else think about the figure skatings? Like or dislike? Are you a figure skater? Have you even ever watched it? Do you have a skater? Do you need a basic explanation of the types of skating events and how they are judged? Newbie or veteran to the sport, get in on the action and start popularizing the "Other Sports Blitz" forum today!!!
