Found an interesting and newsworthy article on the Williams sisters and controversial father Richard.

From SportsLine (http://cbs.sportsline.com/b/page/pressbox/0,1328,3679580,00.html):

You needn't be a clairvoyant to know that any attempt to direct even a hint of criticism in the direction of the Williams family -- be it Venus, Serena, or father, Richard -- will be met with outrage.

So be it. What happened this weekend in Palm Springs, at the tennis event best known as Indian Wells, will be the talk of the sport for a while.

That's only fitting, considering the bizarre spectacle several-thousand spectators witnessed: the boos cascading on Serena Williams before, during and after she won the women's singles title -- even though much of the anger was directed at Richard and, to a lesser extent, Venus.

It began after Venus unexpectedly withdrew from a semifinal against Serena four minutes before its start.

Comments on this?

my comments would be exactly what other players have said, but hingis said it best their matches are a "family affair" & for now thats all i have to say about that.

My personal opinion is that Richard Williams should stay out of his daughter's tennis lives and I would hope the rumors that their matches are pre-planned are invalid. That is unethical and wrong.

I knew that they were pre-agrangging the matches but i think their father is kind of a bit too pushy....i think he should stay OUT of their affairs.....like before in GRAND SLAMS they even made a agrangement of like venus wins or serena wins...........

To all my fans out there -- Don't believe everything you see or read
--Venus Williams

Need I say more?

Richard Williams SHOULD be involved with his daughter's career... but be more like Earl Woods... Earl has kind of stepped aside -- more and more ever year it seems... Richard's daughter's are "big girls" now -- I think they can handle thier own lives, and their dad just needs to sit back and watch them play without getting involved financially, technically, or otherwise.

That said, I still don't believe these rumors -- that's all they are: rumors.

No one here ever said the rumors are true... and they probably aren't, but never say never.
