View Full Version : The Green Monster no longer the tallest!
In an interesting story, the Reds will have a 40-foot high wall in their center field, 3-feet taller than Fenway's famous wall. Here's the story on Sportsline (http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/multi/0,1329,3680172_52,00.html).

This will be interesting to watch...
Who will be the first over it? I'm sure it will add a little more excitement to the games in Cincy. I wonder what Griffey thinks lol

Yeah, this is interesting. Can't wait to see it. :D
Maybe that will help the Reds weak pitching staff. :)

Too bad for Jr. He won't make ESPN's highlight reel as often for taking HRs away from the opposition.
Seriously, I've heard that the new field will be great and will be fan friendly.

The 'Monster may not be the tallest once Cincy's is erected, it still is by far the BEST big wall, bar none.

Fenway still has a lot of history so I will always remember it. I think this is still good though. There is just so many homeruns nowadays. It would be nice to see a few more pitchers with ERA's below 4.00

Cincy will only have this wall for two seasons, though, as they will leave Cinergy for the Great American Ballpark after that.

Personally, I think this is getting a bit ridiculous.
Every new ballpark these days has something 'cutsie' about their field to make it stand out. First Baltimore decided to put advertising back on the outfield walls, and now everyone's copied that terrible practice. Cleveland and Texas decided to have short porches to favor their power hitters, Houston decides to build a bandbox -- and on top of that a hill and flagpole in center field. Great.
Everything's fine and dandy, except for the fact there are at least five home runs a game, the average game keeps creeping up to 13-8 type scores, and lasts 3-1/2 hours long. Then, like with Houston, you've got the very real possibility of a player twisting an ankle trying to track down a fly ball in their outfield.
Sorry, but I think this is a bad idea. Baseball should come first not playing around with architecture.

Well, it looks like Cinci could be another hitter's paradise, that's the way it looks like after the 10-4 Braves win today. Even little Rafael Furcal poked one out.
They do have minimum dimesions for stadiums, but there are easily exceptions. If you make it shorter, just raise a wall and it's alright. This should not be. I think these rules should be enforced or at least increased. But yes, the last thing baseball needs is a hill in CF. Plus, with all these walls and stuff, umps have a hard time with some calls, we've already seen it once at Cinci, but it was quickly corrected. There should be regulations to stadiums to make them feel somewhat similar.
