Looks like there's a chance your beloved Jeter will start off the season on the DL according to Sportsline wire reports (http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/multi/0,1329,3696228_52,00.html).

CLEARWATER, Fla. -- New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter could start the regular season on the disabled list.

Jeter did not take part in baseball drills Saturday as he undergoes treatment for a right quadriceps injury.

"I can't tell you he'll be ready for the season," manager Joe Torre said before the Yankees played the Philadelphia Phillies. "There's no plan. We'll see how he feels. In order not to lose him for an extended period during the start of the season, playing here or playing there makes that difference. You have to be cautious."

Jeter has played in just five games this spring. He has also been sidelined by a right shoulder injury and viral throat infection.
Also, speaking of the Yanks, they haven't been too hot in the preseason! 8-16? Worse in the AL? Let's hope they continue it in the season. ;)

Yeah, like that will happen! ha :)

Having Jeter out will make us have to prove that we can play with or without any one or two players.

As much as I would like a Jeter injury to affect the Yanks, I don't see it making too much of an impact...too bad.

I think the Yanks could pull this off if they can win 3 titles straight they should be able to pull this off.......if they don't that means they aren't the team i think they are........

I don't think that Yanks will be able to three peat. They might, just might, have the talent to do it but at the same time the odds of doing it in MLB is rather low.

I think they will win again this year. Losing Jeter does hurt but I'm sure they will get someone to replace him. Maybe someone from the minors or something. They always seem to have good people as backups. Also, preseason doesn't mean anything. A couple years ago, Butch Huskey led in homeruns for preseason and he did horrible in the regular season. Plus, the Yankees still have Bernie and great pitching.

New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter will start the regular season on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps.

"I know he feels obligated to be ready, but I'm still more comfortable having him take the extra four, five days and that's what it came down to," Yankees manager Joe Torre said Saturday.

Jeter, who is going on the disabled list retroactively, will be eligible to be activated next Saturday, when New York plays the Toronto Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium. Torre said Jeter likely will rejoin the team Friday.

"I know he probably could go out and play, but again, because it's such a short time being away, you really have to look at the big picture," Torre said. "He did not try and talk me out of it. Once I said this is what I want to do, that was it. He did not, even kiddingly, try to change my mind."

The Yankees also placed outfielders Henry Rodriguez (back strain) and Shane Spencer (knee), along with pitcher Ramiro Mendoza (shoulder) on the 15-day disabled list. Pitcher Darrell Einertson (rotator cuff) was put on the 60-day DL.

Scott Seabol, who hit .296 with 20 homers and 78 RBI at Double-A Norwich last season, will replace Rodriguez.

Jeter has played the field past two days in minor league games after being sidelined two weeks. He admitted Saturday that he still feels the injury when running.

"I don't feel it walking around," Jeter said. "The only time I feel it is when I run."

Jeter will continue working out at the Yankees' extended spring training camp. He appeared in just five major league spring games, going 3-for-15.

"I don't want to be down here," Jeter said. "I told him I'm ready and I told them I could play. I said my part. Everybody wants to play opening day. You don't want to miss games."

The 2000 World Series MVP, also sidelined by a right shoulder injury and viral throat infection this spring, did not try plead his case with the Yankees.

"You know I'm not going to tell them anyway," Jeter said. "What I tell them, I don't think they'll listen to it."

D'Angelo Jimenez will take Jeter's spot on the Opening Day roster. Luis Sojo is likely to start at shortstop against Kansas City on Monday and bat eighth, with second baseman Alfonso Soriano moving from the No. 8 slot to No. 2.

I don't think this should affect the Yankees too much. They still have so many great players.

Me neither. This won't affect them to much. When Jeter comes back off the DL, he should be @ 100 %. This only helps the Yankees more. Had he not gone on the DL, he could of injured his quad even more. Smart move on the part of the Yankees!!

Yes. They know they it is better to play it safe and have him healthy after he's off the DL then to let him play. Not a lot of teams have luxuries like this where they can put the top player on the DL and still probably win alot of games.

Dear M. James:

I am beginning to consider it good luck for the Yanks to suck in the pre-season. As it was pointed out before, look at last year! We will be just fine, don't you worry! I know it's discouraging that Jeter is on the DL, but we have so many great players, that his absence will not affect us as direly as you may hope. I mean, it's not like the Red Sox fans, who don't know what to do without Nomar!

Seriously, though. I love the Yankees, and they're unstoppable! All you other fans desrve kudos for your undying loyalty, though.

Thanks for that last line man. I think you are too proud of being a Yankee fan. But still my Mets aren't so bad, how about Ventura's two 2-run homeruns yesterday? That was just great.
