Its suprising, but its not a 'changing of the guard', everyone gets upset once in a while. :)

Thoughts?

Well, I think Sampras is one of the best ever. However, I think he is now an AVERAGE player. He is my favorite, and I hate to say it, but I don't think he has the 5 years left in him as he so quoted last week.

The 18 year old is an up and coming great in my opinion. But I don't think it is a GREAT accomplishment like it used to be to beat Sampras. He has already lost more matches this year than he probably did in 1 year when he was in his prime.

I think his time is close to having to retire, but it pains me to say it! I think Agassi however is playing the best tennis of his life. I think he is by far and away the best player out there right now, and can be for a few more years if he stays healthy.

I agree, beating Pete ain't what it used to be. But what you saw was special, what you saw was the changing of the guard. Andy Roddick has been touted for years as the next Pete. Now he's beginning to show it. Roddick has basically won every junior title on the planet. Now he's a pro, and maturing fast. Look for Andy to go at least into the quarters at Wimbledon, and have a decent showing at the French.

As I predicted here in January, Pete will call it quits after this year. He will announce it after the Big W. You can see he's lost the fire, and is looking tired now. Add to that the fact that Mrs. Pete is probably wearing him down in other ways, and you can see the end of the line for Pistol Pete. We will all miss him, but he's played for 13 years, and that's about the life span of the open era champion. Very few last as long as Pancho Gonzalez or Ken Rosewall did.

Put Andy Roddick in your tennis lexicon. You'll be happy you did in a year or two.

I know nothing about this Andy dude. Is he a nice guy? Is he respectful, polite, non arrogant? If he is he may be my next guy to cheer for! I am going to need someone soon once Sampras is gone, and I have no other favorites.

I read that he did take his hat off to shake Sampras' hand. I hope Sampras does retire at th eend of the year unless he starts winning again! If he leaves now he leaves on top! I don't want to see him leave on the bottom!!!

I think he should retire after the U.S. Open no matter what the outcome. Even if he does bad people will always remember the 13 grand slams and all the good things in his career.

And most importantly, they *won't* remember him for losses like this.
