If I were a baseball GM, I would not have made this deal. I mean... 11 years?!?!? Hmm... I mean... will he even be any good that long? Granted he has great numbers and he has produced, but (although I hate when people say this), he does play in Coors quite a bit.

I have my doubts.

Yes, I agree. 11 years does seem a bit too much.

I agree that 11 years is too long. Anything could happen to him.

Yes. For all we know he might even be playing anymore in 11 years. I just hope he is though, I like Helton a lot. I want to see him get better as he gets older.

Yeah, 11 years is a lot and 151 mill is a lot of money.

Actually, I like the deal. It locks him up at a decent yearly salary for the rest of his lifetime. At this point and time in baseball, in 5-6 years, 15 mil might be a bargain. This guy had an MVP year. Granted in Colorado, but he had some great stats on the road too. If I remember correctly, the deal runs until he's around 38, if he doesn't suffer some kind of horrific injury, the deal will work out through all of Helton's productive years.

He's only been in the league several years. You will never really know if he will continue to produce for the next few years consistently.

Well if the contracts goes until he is 38...........i think it was too long at least for a pro player.....

True. I mean, who knows, a guy like Josh Hamilton once he produces a big year could take home a 30 million dollar a year deal, it definitely is possible.

I'm inclined to think after last season that he will produce consistantly. It's hard to have a fluke sesason liek that, Coors or not.

Yes but will he keep playing this good for 11 years??? I doubt it.

No he probably won't keep up at that level. But I believe he'll continue to be one of the better players in baseball and a clubhouse leader. I'll take that for 11 years and 15 million per.

i doubt he will be consistent......if he does my name will become backwards....

Kcep??? I will wait for that to happen but I doubt it. I suppose he may become a strong influence in the clubhouse but I think 15 million is alot to give a very young player who hasn't proven himself too much. He is good but I would never give him an 11 year contract. Don't you think maybe 4 or 5 would be better?
