Remember when the ref hit Browns lineman Orlando Brown with a flag in the eye? Well, he apparently does, in a major way. He has sued the NFL for $200 million (http://cbs.sportsline.com/u/ce/multi/0,1329,3713701_59,00.html) for "negligence". Quite peculiar, but I would feel bad if I were him. What about you?

Obviously, it was an accident. I wouldn't really know how to react. It ended his career, which resulted in lots of money he was unable to earn. This could go either way.

I think he should get as much as he can. It did end his career. He should be pretty well compensated.

I think he should be entitled to some compensation from the Browns, as his career-ending injury wasn't a direct result of the play...I wonder what his contract includes? Surely there's something concerning a injury that prematurely ends his career...if he didn't have a clause like that in there he needs a new agent! $200 mil though...that's probably too much. This should be settled out of court. It's obvious the ref didn't mean to do what he did, and what would have happened if he'd been poked in the eye by another player...or had blown out his knee...etc?

The problem with that theory is that no one did poke his eye and he didn't blow out his knee, or didn't have a chance to. It was a direct result of the official, who is an NFL employee. 200 mil is probably too much, somewhere closer to 15 was what I was thinking.

I agree that he should be compensated for having his career ended prematurely, but $200 mil does seem a extremely hefty amount.

You know, it's not like I can't change his signature... :uhoh: Nate was just teasing me for using the blue color in my signature that he used. Nothing more, nothing less.

...How many times to referees in ANY sport take abuse and don't get any form of compensation?... and the ONE time a referee hurts a player, accident or not, he (well, the league) gets sued of all the parties involved! I'm in disgust.

But when has a player ended a referee's career and damaged his seeing permanently?

Well, if it did come to a point where a ref's career was ended by a player or coach or any on field agency for that matter, then I recommend he go for some compensation if the player/whatever was found negligent.
