Alright... we've discussed who we all think will win each division Crown, and now the time has come to see who will be the men and who will be the boys at the end of the season, to be determined by everyone's pre-season picks for who will win the 2001 World Series.

Sorry, but I gotta go with the Yankees.

Make your predictions now!... Opening day is just under 2 days away!!!

I am also sorry to say the Yankees. They just have so much money they practically buy it.

I hate to disagree with you both, but I think the Yankees run is going to end this season. I could see the A's taking them. The A's have a scary team. If everyone plays well, they could win 105 games and run away with the title. They could be the best team in the majors this season. If everyone doesn't play well, they could finish with 85 wins and maybe sneak in as a wild-card team.
They have the potential to take it all this season.

For AL I think the Yankees but like it's been said, the A's are a strong team. For the NL I think maybe the Braves or Cardinals maybe. For the whole championship though, gotta say the Yankees.

I'll go out on a limb and pick the A's! Someone remember to bring this thread up at the end of the season to see how we did. Time is running out, everyone must get their selection in!

I am going with the Mariners this year even after the loss of A-rod! They improved their pitching and it made it the best all-around staff in the majors. To avoid confusion, the Yanks have best starters but all around has to go to M's with the addition of Jeff Nelson. Edgar has been getting better with age and for now will be the source of power. If Ichiro can live up to expectations of being Tony Gwynn-esque, he will really be something. I won't be surprised if the M's sign Jose Canseco or try and get Carl Everett. Should be a great season no matter who wins the series.

I still think that the Yankees will pull away with it.

I am picking the A's to win it all. They had a great team last year, and they got Johnny Damon which will make them all the better.

I think the A's and the Braves will make it. Braves in 6. This is after the Braves exact revenge on the Cardinal's in the NLCS (6 games) for last year's demolishment. And the A's take out the Yankees in an exciting 7 game ALCS.

MVP will be John Smoltz pitching a brilliant game 2 and 6.

The Cleveland Indians and Oakland A's are both better teams than the Yanks.

How do you figure that? Who else had Petitte, Clemens, Hernandez, and Mussina as they top 4 starters. Also, Rivera is one of the league's best closers and Jeter and Bernie Wiliams make the All-star team every year. What other teams also have a great coach like Torre? The A's may do well this year but I don't see the Indians doing anything.

I still think the Yankees will win the World Series. However, I think the A's will give them a run for their money.

As for the NL, I only see the Braves getting to the World Series... The Mets and Cards will be close behind, but I see the Braves getting there.

Yankees will win in 6 games!!!

How about that for a prediction!! :D

Why? The Indians had the best statistical top three in baseball last year. The thing that killed them was all the injuries. They also replace Ramirez with Gonzo. Even with all the injuries, we still played better than any other team the second half of the year last year. The first half just killed them. And if you remember, the Yanks were not playing good, and barely squeked in. Last year, the Indians had more wins than the Yankees.

The reason I say this is because I think the White Sox will win the Central Division and I feel that the Red Sox or the Blue Jays will get the Wild Card. And remember Gonzalez did not have such a great season last year as compared to other years and he might still be hurting.

I do think the Indians could at least get the Wild Card as long as they stay healthy.

Wedge231
04-01-2001, 12:24 PM
I acknowledge that possibility but I think the Red Sox are a stronger team as long as they stay healthy also.

You think the Red Sox are stronger? Are you crazy? The wont even have Nomar for half the season...or more. And the have no pitching. You have discraced the name of Senior Poster! :)

Okay, but I'm sticking by my opinion.

I like your prediction of the White Sox going to the World Series, but I honostly don't know that will happen.

I highly doubt that Florida will go anywhere this season.

Hmmm, I think that Chicago probably won't get to the World Series. And where are the A's in your AL predictions? I also thing that the Marlin will definately not be in the playoffs and I doubt St. Louis will get past the NLCS.

Hey I think Florida will surprise people, they have a small chance at the Wild Card, but give them another year or two.

Heck, right now St. Louis has one of the better chances to make it past the NLCS. But they have to play better than they did in Coors.

And although I picked the A's to be my AL pennant winner, they're not exactly a lock to make the playoffs, if they happen to lose their grip (IMO, doubtful) on the division, they could easily not make the playoffs with the crowded AL Wild Card.

I think A's have the 2nd best shot at the post season after the Yankees.

Yankees, Yankees, Yankees ~ Even the haters know this, whether they will admit it or not. And as for everyone saying we will only win it because we "buy" our victories: The Angels are owned by DISNEY! Disney has ridiculous power to buy "victories", but where have they been? The Yanks win the world series every year because they are the best and they deserve to. ;)
