Well, the good news from opening day 2001?: My favorite team, the Blue Jays, are now on pace for 162 victories this season!.. he he :D

Bad news?: the STADIUM the Rangers and Jays were playing in!!!!... how many times did people fall around second base due to poor stadium maintenance!

On an unrelated note... Looks like the Rangers really did not invest $252 million wisely in a guy as smart/dumb as a rod, because he can't even tie up his shoelaces properly!!!... ha ha!!... that was funny!!!... :)

What?... the situation on A-Rod?

Well, sometime in the first half of the game (I forget... 5th or so inning), he went to field a ground ball, and when they had the close-up of his legs in the slow-mo replay, you could see that as he was crossing over his legs, his foot got caught in his shoe lace... as a result, he wasn't able to throw the ball to make the out at first base.

I have to agree. As many problems as MLB is having, you'd think the last thing they would want to do is have their Opening Game in a minor league ballpark overseas.

And, yes, I thought opening up the 2000 season in Tokyo was a bad idea as well.

What baseball ought to do is have each team play a three-game homestand in early May at their Triple A affiliate's park. I am sure places like Charlotte, Omaha, Sacramento and Edmonton would eat up the chance to have major-leaguers in their city, if only for a weekend -- plus this is the time of year when sellouts are hard to come by in MLB (because of chilly weather in some places and school being in session). So it would be a win-win for everyone.

I don't agree opening the baseball season out of the country. I understand the whole international promotions, but opening day should be in the US/Canada, not in a foreign country. Is it that hard to maybe wait a couple weeks, or even do it after the All-Star game?

A quarter billion dollar man....hmmmmmmm. Anyway..

Glad to see the Jays off to a good start! As for the out of US/CAN deal, I agree that it should be played around here.

How about a MON/TOR game to open up AMERICA'S PASTIME season. haha

Haha, no. I think the opener should be between good rivals like NYY Vs Boston or Atlanta Vs Mets or something like that.

The Tokyo idea was horrible. I still remember Mike Hampton and throwing all those balls and walking double the amount he struck out.
