There's supposed to be a press conference announcing Troy Aikman's retirement today. I think this is a good move. I wrote an article a few months ago on the reasons for this at e-sports. You can read it below.

I know the guy wanted to go out like Elway but it's very rare that superstars get to leave on their own terms.
He's a bright guy and wants to be an announcer. I think he'd be a valuable asset as a head coach someday. You won't find too many football players as intelligent as Aikman.
I hope this is true, it's a good move. He made the right decision and it would not worsen his health for the long-run.
As much as Troy was a good QB for Dallas when they actually won games, I think it is a good move on his part. It is his time to go, it's not worth the risks for him to play after all those concussions.

Not much else to say. I agree that it was time to go.

This was the best move for him. No one can use him as a starter year. Health wise it was the best move he could make.

As much as I hated seeing the Cowboys win year after year in the mid-90s, I still think that Aikman was one of the best ever, as was the Emmitt/Irvin/Aikman trio.
Still, I'm very happy that he decided to retire. After seeing Eric Lindros going through his spell of concussions locally, there's no way I'd want anyone to suffer through them. Hopefully he'll make Canton.

Looks like he could be headed to Fox.
