Default USC gets 13-year-old commitment

13-year-old quarterback David Sills commits to USC - ESPN Los Angeles

This belongs on April 1, not February 5. I mean, 13? This shouldn't be allowed. The kid hasn't even gotten into high school yet. He may not even want to play football by the time he's 18.

Way to keep it classy, Lane Kiffin.

Too young,..I agree! As a parent I would be upset as well that a university would even entertain such a thing!

From what I hear it is only a verbal meaning he can back out on it any time and apparently Kiffin has some sort of connection with the kid and his family.

Not the first time we have seen something like this and it won't be the last.

I wonder what happens if the kid grows wrong and doesn't have the talent when its time to go to USC?

Kiffin just seems to be a magnet for negative attention and rubbing people the wrong way. He's not a very likable guy. He has never accomplished anything to be deserving of this job...

I still don't understand why USC even wanted Lane Kiffin. Anyways, it's just verbal the kid can back out on it. The kid can't even legally sign anything until he's 18 anyways, he's waaaaay to young to be committing to a college.

It's a verbal, like NAR says, either side can back out on the offer at any time. It is more symbolic than anything. Nothing is official until he signs that Letter of Intent.

Which he can't do until he's 18 correct? No contract of any form can be signed until your of the legal age of consent.

Not sure. I think you might be able to sign a LOI during the spring of your junior year, not 100% sure on that though, but, a lot kids don't because they want to wait and see which players leave early for the pros, which coaches jump ship, etc.

Actually that's true, I know the Running Back at my highschool signed his LOI to West Virginia during his Junior year, but I thought he was 18 he may not have been.

the parents can sign the LOI on behalf of the kid if he's a minor.
