Citrus Bowl becomes Capital One Bowl

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) -- The college postseason game formerly known as the Florida Citrus Bowl became the Capital One Bowl on Tuesday.

Capital One, a Virginia-based consumer lending company, took over as the top sponsor of the Jan. 1 bowl game after co-sponsor, the Florida Citrus Commission, dropped out after 19 years.
We had a discussion on Houston's new Minute Maid Field, so I thought this was of some interest. I'm sorry, but Citrus and Florida go together and like peanut butter and jelly and this just sounds a ton more commercialized and cheap. It really degrades the bowl. Speaking of bowls, which bowl name do you despise the most?

Ghey...that's what it is...

I hate all this company-named bowls. I don't really mind stuff like they had for the Rose Bowl "presented by At&T" etc, but to rename a bowl like the Citrus to Capital One is really stupid.

Well we all know Money makes the world go round... and it is the cause for many changes. So, that being said, that is why we have the Citrus bowl being called the Capital One Bowl.

So, I guess the Tennessee Vols will have will to get used to saying Capital One since they love playing in the lovely state of Florida in years past in the Citrus Bowl.

By the way did yall know that there is 28 bowl games now? That means that 56 teams can now claim bids to bowls.... that is like half of college football.... Do you think that is just too many or am i the only one?

Go Gators by the way

Joey

Joey, I think you are right on - that is WAY too much. Going to a bowl game will become routine for nearly every team, if you ask me. Man, I'm just wondering if team names will become advertisements before my time on earth is done...

"And now, the BankOne Titans are kicking off..."

Too me 28 is too many, but if there making money and fans will go then no biggie. Hey for me, college football is my favorite game, so its just more games to watch.

Any chance Marc, that you or anyone else for that matter, has a link to all the bowls and what conferences are afiliated with each bowl. I know there are 2 or 3 new bowl games that were added this upcoming year also. But if you know where i could find the complete listing of bowls and what conferences are afiliated with them it would be a great help to me.

Thanks!
