I thought of this thread-starter earlier when talking about endzone celebrations. The following is a list of the sports announcers I absolutely can't stand:
1. Joe Buck (along with Troy Aikman for football & Tim McCarver for baseball) Pious dork and complete bore to listen to. 2. Brent Musburger Announces games in conversational style that is SO annoying. 3. Dick Vitale Pleeessse stop screaming, Bay-bee!!!!! 4. John Madden Half the things he says are like "Duh?!" 5. Brian Baldinger He always ends up working the Bucs games & has such an anti-Buc bias it drives me crazy (so does Buck & Aikman) |

John Madden in the Madden video games. He's always like "Well you see, the key to winning football games is scoring the most points. That will usually guarantee you a win."

1. Joe Buck - f'n nerd!
2. D. Vitale - I just wanna put him in a head lock and give 'em one good punch to the mouth "baby"! 3. LA Angels announcers - Forget their names, but out here in Hawaii we get Fox Sports SoCal, and they play Angels games. The announcers are so annoying, they call the players by their 1st names, initials (which is so gay) and make up nicknames. For Ex: (I know some of these guys have since bben traded) Eckstein = "X" Factor Garret Anderson = G.A. Darrin Erstad = Esrty Adam Kennedy = A.K. Vlady, Glaus, Garrett Anderson combined = G Force. Just this year with new comer Orlando Cabrerra = O.C. They are so f'n annoying, I honestly mute the games!

Does anyone like Joe Buck???? I'm not a Moss fan and thought that "mooning" episode was inappropriate, but Joe Buck blew that up so bad when he was like" "a disgusting display...yada, yada". He went overboard.

I don't mind Joe Buck that much. I don't think he and McCarver are a good pairing at all. But some that need to go:
-Bill Maas: Just generally as clueless as they come. I think he has maybe watched five games that he has not played in. During yesterday's game he keeps going on and on about how nobody has ever shut down Vick the way the Panthers did yesterday. So, apparently he is unaware of this year's Jets game or never bothered to tune in last year's NFC Championship game where Vick is relatively uneffective. -Brent Musberger: I just don't understand how he still has a job. -Brian Baldinger is just as bad as Maas. -Phil Simms: Is just boring to listen to, and no Phil you aren't funny either. Jim Nantz' back must be sore every week from carrying Simms through each broadcast. -Joe Theisman/John Madden: They just need to stop with the Favre/Vick lovefests already. Frank Caliendo had a great line when he said you can always tell when the Packers lose because Madden will sound depressed on MNF. -Braves announcers just suck and take homerism to a whole new stratosphere. -Chris Berman is just a caricature of himself anymore and sounds like he is out of breath half the time. -Terry Bradshaw: Just once I would love for him to give some cogent analysis instead of stammering about like a drunken redneck who just fell off the turnip truck.

Wow, Doublee, that's just uncanny. I'll just list the ones i agree with you on completely:
Bill Maas, Brian Baldinger, Theisman, Braves announcers, Berman, Bradshaw Completely. I wouldn't even change your commentary on those. On Madden, i'd just add that his repetition drives me CRAZY. "You see, that's just Randy Moss being Randy Moss. That's just Randy Moss stuff right there. Randy Moss is so fast, he just runs down the field and boom, he's gone. That's Randy Moss's game. Because that's what Randy Moss does. He runs right by you." Al: "He is SO fast." John: "Yur, yur right, yur absolutely right. That's Randy Moss. That's his game and that's what he does." And the hero worship and the general "duh" points bother me too, of course. Other dudes who drive me nuts: Joe Buck: Ready to jump on any bandwagon and has no spine. Cocky SOB who's always yapping through the action in baseball. Matt Millen: I haven't forgotten. Just like Maas, he's a Madden-imitator. Not a very good GM either. Hawk and Wimpy: Yes, i know the ChiSox fired Wimpy, but i'm still bitter and these two whining homers will always go together for me. If games were called the way they thought they should go, the Sox would win 140 games every year. Tony Siragusa: He's not funny, he's not insightful, he's just fat. Dickie V: Loudmouth caricature. Billy Packer: Head is so far up the rear of Kryzeaewqaeweski and the ACC in general. Has a streak of 174 consecutive UK games called where he takes some cheap shot at Pitino or the Cats. Smug SOB. I think I'm going to go make a pinata of him right now... Mike Shannon (STL Cards): It'd be okay that he was a homer if he wasn't so darn clueless. Gets by on personality. Bill Walton: I've never heard so much stupid stuff come out of one mouth. It used to be pretty entertaining when Snapper Jones would basically tell him he's dead wrong-- highlight of the NBA telecasts of that era.

I forgot about Billy Packer as well, but that is probably because I have only had to endure him once so far this year. My biggest gripe with him is that he tries to pass himself off as the all-knowing voice of college basketball. Plus, he lost huge points with me when he berated a student worker at Cameron because they wouldn't let him into the media area without showing his press pass. He pulled the old do you know who I am routine.

You are "dead-on" with Madden. And ya, thank you for reminding me that Tony Siragusa is fat and has no insight (forgot about him).Good call on Walton too... Even I'm (a die-hard Celts fan) annoyed by him!

But I agree. It's weird. He's on the sidelines, and just randomly interjects with the booth announcers, and they never acknowledge his comments. Odd...I like Dickie V. He's very kind to Kentucky, and he has such a passion for the game. He kind of signifies big game, just like Madden. When a big play is made and the students in the crowd go crazy, his yelling pumps me up. Especially if it's during a Kentucky game. However, he's not perfect! His biggest problem is he talks off-topic way too much. The next guy is Billy Packer. He's just a bitter old man who hates Kentucky. Comes off as very critical and unpleasant. Brent Musburger is really annoying and I totally agree with everything. His style ... ugh!

I'm not crazy about Dickie V, but you can't question his passion for college basketball. And he did a tremendous speech tonight at halftime during the Michigan State-Boston College game talking about the Jimmy V Foundation.

I do not like the White Sox announcers at all. I sometimes watch Twins/White Sox games on Fox-Chicago just to hear them whine about how their team gets screwed every time. Especially when Johan Santana is pitching for the Twins. Hawk said something about Santana "doing something to the ball" to get his change-up working the night he beat the Sox 1-0 last year. It was hilarious.
Otherwise, I really don't have any announcers that I dislike enough to mention them specifically.
