Default Holliday Time in St Louis!!!!!

Matt Holliday and the Cardinals reached an agreement on a 7-year, $120M contract. Good move for both sides, but I don't really see that the Cardinals will have the revenue to handle both Holliday's and Pujols' contracts in a couple of seasons. This shows Pujols that they want to win, though, so it might help him decide to give them a "hometown" discount.
Here is a story: Cards sign Holliday 010510 - MLB News - FOX Sports on MSN

So much for the $200 million Boras was telling everyone Holliday deserved to get.

To my knowledge the Cards were the only team to offer Holliday a substantial contract.

The Cards had to do this if they are to have any shot at re-signing Pujols. It is not going to kill their bottom line since some of the contract is said to be deferred and his salary is basically the same as what they paid Troy Glaus for re-habbing all year and Adam Kennedy for releasing him.

So does this help or hurt the chances of keeping Pujols? I think Pujols will remain in St. Louis, even though he may get more money elsewhere. It's a solid franchise, great fan support, and they always contend. Hard to beat it.

It helps them keep Pujols, he reportedly told the team as much which is why they were willing to give Holliday that kind of a deal. There are so many years he is going to put up with guys like Troy Glaus, Ryan Ludwick, and Rick Ankiel hitting behind him in the lineup. Holliday is at least a a legit .300 hitter who can drive in 100+ runs per year.
