The players are basically in a no-win situation right now. They are either going to have to agree to the league contracting or a new CBA that calls for up to 30% decreases in max salary amounts. The fact is the league as a whole is losing money and honestly there are some teams the league could probably do without and nobody would miss them.

I don't think the Hornets are making any money, the Bobcats have yet to turn any kind of a real profit, and the Clippers are just a horribly run franchise.

The quality of play in the league would probably be a lot better if they got rid of a few teams and dispersed those players around the league.

Minnesota, Memphis, those teams don't bring in any kind of real profit. Hell even Detroit is losing all sorts of money right now.

I disagree with shutting down teams tho.

I'm not opposed to contraction, but who would the league eliminate? I don't see a lot of dead weight or obvious choices. My hometown Bobcats are getting better, they just need a chance to keep improving. I would say get rid of the Clippers; they've been a disgrace from the beginning, and L.A. already has a team.

The league has talked about
Memphis
Minnesota
the Clippers make sense why are two teams in LA necessary?
(sorry Marc) the league has said the Bobcats are an "obvious choice"

The Bobcats are easily an obvious choice. Maybe if Jordan spent more time concentrating on the Bobcats than playing golf and whooping it up in Vegas the Bobcats would be more than a fringe playoff team with zero marketability right now.

The Grizzlies and T-Wolves have no real star power either. Teams that are losing money and have no marketable players would be the first to go.

Which makes the most sense, obviously, trying to eliminate losses means eliminating the teams losing money. So Cleveland, Detroit, Lakers, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, they are for the most part safe.
