Question Philip Rivers to Big D?

On Saturday morning Chris Mortensen reported that the Chargers will most likely slap a franchise tag on Drew Brees, and then seriously consider trading Philip Rivers - and the strongest "contender" to land Rivers is none other than the Cowboys. Rumored price: Both of the first-round picks Dallas holds in the first round - their own and Buffalo's.

But my question is: What if Matt Leinart does come out? If he does, will Dallas make a similar offer to San Francisco?

If this trade were to happen, San Diego would hold FOUR first round picks:

(8)- From Dallas
(12)- From Giants
(21)- From Dallas through Buffalo
(29)- Projected pick, will improve after loss

This a great chance for the Chargers to really stock up on talent or package a couple of the picks and move into a higher slot to get a playmaker at receiver such as Mike Williams or Braylon Edwards. With Brees staying in San Diego and Tomlinson locked up long term, the Chargers have a chance to really be a good team for years to come if they can sure up the defense.

Yes! I was thinking that last night. I thought their would be a chance that we could get Phillup Rivers. I would like to see us keep are late 1st rounder though and give something else to go with the 11th pick.

San Diego isn't going to give up Rivers for anything less than their full asking price. Lets suppose Brees struggles next season and 2004 was just a fluke. Are they going to want Brees back with a highly touted ex-first round pick on the bench?

The only way I could see San Diego getting anything less than Dallas' two first rounders is one of the picks, Drew Henson and a picks package including 2nd and 3rd rounders. That seems unlikely IMO.

I wouldn't be surprised if Cleveland, Miami, Arizona, Oakland and Chicago get involved in the bidding war.

Who? The Cowboys aren't going to give up Julius Jones or Keyshawn, Jason Witten or Terence Newman. Every other player on the Cowboys' roster (for the most part) is either young and unproductive/inexperienced or old. If I were San Diego, I want draft picks. Draft picks allow you to take players that fit your system. With four first round picks, San Diego could stock themselves with anywhere from two to four quality young players.

Dallas would be stupid to give up 2 first round picks for Rivers....i would be pissed off if they made that trade...Rivers might be a good QB, but theres also a chance that he might not do any better then what Henson can do, and i think giving up 2 first round picks when there are obvious holes elsewhere in the Cowboys lineup would be a very stupid move.

I agree, we need both of those picks badly and Henson is still a possiblity.
