Default What the hell! It's the NHL! (Running Thread)

Whatever is on your mind.

Wow. Just wow. I don't know how many of you caught the Pens-Canes game, but if you didn't, you missed some really exciting hockey. Down 2-0 heading into the 3rd, the Pens were able to tie it up and force an OT and then a shootout. They lost, but it was exciting. Caron (G-Pit) and Ward (G-Car) played exceptionally well and just watching this game gave me back the feeling of excitement that is hockey.

Hockey is the greatest sport out there!

Nobody would've said two years ago a Canes game would be exciting, but under the new rules it's a fun game to watch. Good to see Crosby collect another assist, the first goal should come soon.

If his first goal comes at the home opener (tonight) the crowd will just go nuts.

In the spirit of "whatever is on your mind," I'm heading to Staples Center tonight to check out the Kings vs Oilers. I was at Sunday night's game too, when LA beat the Wild 2-1 in OT. When Demitra scored that goal, the roof nearly came off the building. I couldn't get over how quickly the game went by and this can perhaps be best attributed to the new offside rules allowing players to tag up and get onside. The pace is so fast, now. I love it. Kiefer Sutherland loved it, too. I saw him ten rows behind me. The man is intense about his hockey.

The Rangers suck. What else is new?

It will be interesting to see Kovalchuk and Hossa on the same team.

Kings beat the Oilers 3-1. Strong win for LA. Sean Avery is rocketing up the list of favorite players. That guy is a pitbull. You have to love the way he plays.

Um... fair enough. But my point was that you have to love the way he plays the game.

Joe Thornton getting shipped to San Jose is amazing. The Bruins were set to sink their entire future into him. Wow. Brad Stuart, Marco Sturm, and Wayne Primeau in return. I don't know if all those players combined have as much talent as Thornton, but the Bruins certainly have a little more balance now. I guess when you're struggling as bad as Boston and SJ, you have to shake things up. Really nice pick up for the Sharks.

Unhappy My Season is Officially Over

Thornton traded to Sharks for three players...
http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2242875
Since the Bruins are struggling this season I guess they figured why pay Thorton all that $$$... Dump him now and save some cash since they are going nowhere. He started off slow this season, but since then, Thornton is tied for 11th in the NHL in scoring with nine goals and 24 assists.
Sux - Déjà vu all over again - feels like the day the Sox traded Nomar. Too bad there's NO CHANCE of the Bruins winning a championship

Relatively speaking, I'd say Thornton leaving the B's is much worse than the Red Sox shipping Nomar. For one, the Sox were actually a better team w/o Nomar and, even before his departure, everyone knew they'd be better off if he left.

Yeah, I know - but it was Nomar. I still root for him in ChiTown.
But back to NHL - I loved Thornton, guy's awesome. It just sux when your team is making all the wrong moves, the GM's, owners, etc. don't know what they're doing, nor do they care. It's not about the fans or winning to them, its all about the green $$$$$.
There - I've vented. I feel better.
