Default Bama's Top 10 Pro Football Rankings Week 13

This was a tough week for picking the top 10 teams in the NFL. My number one ranked Indianapolis Colts fell to the Tennessee Titans and the Chicago Bears won ugly, but they won. Also, the Baltimore Ravens fell to the Cincinnati Bengals. So who are the top 10 teams in the NFL? You tell me.

1.San Diego Chargers-(10-2)-The Chargers beat the
Buffalo Bills, 24-21 in Buffalo. San Diego has now won
six games in a row. QB Philip Rivers from my home
state of Alabama completed 17 of 29 passes for 160
yards and one touchdown. RB LaDainian Tomlinson
continues to run all over the competition by rushing
for 178 yards on 28 carries and scoring two rushing
touchdowns. Tomlinson leads the NFL in rushing with
1,324 yards. He also leads the NFL in touchdowns with
26. Tight end Antonio Gates caught seven passes for 90
yards and one touchdown. The Chargers defense was led
by linebacker Donnie Edwards who had an amazing 18
tackles in that game. Edwards now has 110 tackles on
the year. He ranks fourth in the NFL in that category.
The defense also had two interceptions on the day.
This team is playing like a Super Bowl contender for
sure. Next game Dec. 10th against the Denver Broncos
in San Diego.

2.Indianapolis Colts-(10-2)-The Colts were shocked by
the Tennessee Titans, 20-17 in Tennessee. Indianapolis
lost the game when Titans kicker Rob Bironas kicked a
60 yard field goal with just seconds left in the
fourth quarter. That's gotta hurt! QB Peyton Manning
completed 21 of 28 passes for 351 yards and one
touchdown. But he threw two interceptions. Manning
achieved a milestone by passing for over 3,000 yards
for the ninth season in a row, tying Dan Marino for
second place all-time. WR Marvin Harrison caught seven
passes for 172 yards and one touchdown. Harrison has
68 receptions on the year now. Linebacker Cato June of
the Colts led the defense with 10 tackles. Next game
Dec. 10th against the Jacksonville Jaguars in
Jacksonville.

3.New England Patriots-(9-3)-The Patriots survived a
scare from the Detroit Lions, but prevailed and won,
28-21 in New England. A win is a win. New England
played some sloppy ball. They lost two fumbles and QB
Tom Brady threw one interception. Brady ended up
completing 27 of 38 passes for 305 yards. RB Corey
Dillon rushed for only 25 yards, but scored three
touchdowns. WR Reche Caldwell has become Brady's main
target and he caught eight passes for 112 yards. RB
Kevin Faulk caught eight passes for 59 yards. The
Patriots defense was led by gritty linebacker Tedy
Bruschi who had 11 tackles and one sack on the day.
Defensive tackle Ty Warren had two sacks along with
linebacker Rosevelt Colvin. Next game Dec. 10th
against the Miami Dolphins in Miami.

4.Chicago Bears-(10-2)-The Bears played sloppy
football, but still beat the Minnesota Vikings to win
the NFC North title. Chicago won by a score of 23-13
in Chicago. The Bears only had six first downs the
entire game compared to 21 for the Vikings. They also
lost two fumbles. QB Rex Grossman had another rough
outing completing only 6 of 19 passes for 34 yards.
Grossman threw three interceptions. That gives him 17
for the season. Some fans are crying for Brian Griese
to take over, but as head coach Lovie Smith stated in
a news conference Sunday, the Bears are 10-2 with him.
Rookie kick returner Devin Hester out of Miami
returned a punt back 45 yards for a touchdown in the
first quarter of the game. Tying a NFL record with his
fourth touchdown return. RB Cedric Benson rushed for
60 yards on nine carries and scored one touchdown. The
Bears defense carried the team again. Safety Chris
Harris had 13 tackles. Linebacker Brian Urlacher had
eight. Chicago's defense ranks second in the NFL,
allowing 268.2 yards per game. As I said before,
Grossman is not the quarterback to lead this team to a
Super Bowl title. It doesn't matter if they end up
14-2 after the regular season is over. Next game Dec.
11th against the St. Louis Rams in St. Louis.

5.Baltimore Ravens-(9-3)-The Ravens lost to the
Cincinnati Bengals last Thursday night, 13-7 in
Cincinnati. The offense could only convert 4 of 13
third downs. QB Steve McNair completed 26 of 43 passes
for 227 yards and one touchdown. WR Derrick Mason
caught seven passes for 90 yards and one touchdown. On
defense for the Ravens linebacker Bart Scott had eight
tackles and one sack. Baltimore has the number one
defense in the NFL, allowing 267.4 yards per game.
Next game Dec. 10th against the Kansas City Chiefs in
Kansas City.

6.New Orleans Saints-(8-4)-The Saints beat the San Francisco 49ers, 34-10 in New Orleans. New Orleans had
23 first downs compared to 10 for the 49ers. Rookie RB
Reggie Bush had his biggest game of the year by
scoring four touchdowns. Bush caught nine passes for
131 yards. He also leads the NFC in receptions with
73. The Saints are ranked number one in the NFL in
offense, averaging 400.2 yards per game. Their defense
is ranked 12th overall. QB Drew Brees completed 17 of
28 passes for 186 yards and one touchdown. Brees still
leads the NFL in passing yards with 3,649. RB Deuce
McAllister had a big game by rushing for 136 yards on
26 carries. New Orlean's defense sacked QB Alex Smith
four times. Next game Dec. 10th against the Dallas
Cowboys in Dallas.

7.Dallas Cowboys-(8-4)-The Cowboys beat their hated
rivals the New York Giants, 23-20 at New York. Dallas
leads the NFC East by two games over the Philadelphia
Eagles and the Giants. QB Tony Romo continues to
perform well, especially in the second half. He
completed 20 of 34 passes for 257 yards. But threw two
interceptions. RB Marion Barber III scored two
touchdowns while rushing for 76 yards on 12 carries.
WR Terrell Owens caught eight passes for 84 yards.
Kicker Mark Gramatica kicked a 46 yard field goal to
win the game with one second left for the Giants. Head
coach Bill Parcells who is not crazy about kickers was
a happy camper. Next game Dec. 10th against the New Orleans Saints at Dallas.

8.Seattle Seahawks-(8-4)-The Seahawks defeated the
Denver Broncos, 23-20 in Denver. Kicker Josh Brown
kicked a 50 yard field goal to win the game for his
team late in the fourth quarter. QB Matt Hasselbeck
completed 16 of 28 passes for 168 yards. He threw one
interception. RB Shaun Alexander rushed for 90 yards
on 26 carries and scored one rushing touchdown. WR
Darrell Jackson caught six passes for 91 yards.
Jackson leads the team in receptions with 58.
Defensive end Darryl Tapp returned an interception 25
yards for a touchdown in the second quarter for
Seattle. Not good. The defense also recovered three
fumbles. Seattle had 10 penalties for 80 yards during
the game. Not good. Next game Dec. 10th against the
Arizona Cardinals in Arizona.

9.Cincinnati Bengals-(7-5)-The Bengals beat Baltimore,
13-7 in Cincinnati. Cincinnati's playoff hopes are
still alive. WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh caught a 40-yard
touchdown pass on a flea-flicker Thursday night,
giving the Cincinnati Bengals a 13-7 victory that kept
the AFC North title up for grabs. Houshmandzadeh
caught 10 passes for 106 yards in the game. WR Chad
Johnson caught eight passes for 91 yards. QB Carson
Palmer completed 21 of 32 passes for 234 yards and one
touchdown. Safety Dexter Jackson led the Bengals
defense with eight tackles. Next game Dec. 10th
against the Oakland Raiders in Cincinnati.

10.New York Jets-(7-5)-The Jets beat the Green Bay
Packers, 38-10 in Green Bay. The offense rolled up 441
yards of offense on the day. QB Chad Pennington
completed 25 of 35 passes for 263 yards and two
touchdowns, but he also threw two interceptions. RB
Cedric Houston rushed for 105 yards on 22 carries and
scored two rushing touchdowns. WR Jerricho Cotchery
caught nine passes for 99 yards and one touchdown.
Linebacker Victor Hobson had 13 tackles for the Jets
defense. Defensive end Byran Thomas had 1.5 sacks in
the game. The Jets are 3-1 playing against their
division. Next game Dec. 10th against the Buffalo
Bills at New York.

Not nit-picking here (I LOVE your top ten every week) but Vrable actually led the defense with 2 INT's (including the one at the end that sealed the game) and a fumble recovery. Along with 8 tackles.

No question San Diego is the best team in the NFL right now. I would maybe put the Cowboys up the chain a little more. They get better and better every week.

I just checked my stats-I meant Bruschi led the defense with 11 tackles. In other words he had the most tackles of any defensive player on his team.

Yes they are. But don't count Kansas City out just yet. Sooner or later they will get it together and be a terror they once were.
