Default Fassel Wants Oakland Gig

Apparently Jim Fassel has told Al Davis he wants to coach the Raiders:

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3706260

Quote:
A team source tells ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen that Fassel recently sent a handwritten letter to Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis, expressing his respect and admiration for Davis and his desire to coach the embattled franchise.
Wow, Fassel must be desperate for a coaching gig if he is resorting to pandering to Al Davis for a job.

The Raiders could sure use someone who has actually done something in this league prowling their sidelines - and they'll beat the Eagles at home next year, no matter who their head coach is: Just like the Eagles have never won in Cincinnati, they've never won in Oakland either, losing both previous games there by a combined 82-27! And history aside, those huge RBs the Raiders have will tattoo Jim Johnson's tiny defensive line.

Or maybe that one will end in a tie too.

Oakland should feel blessed to know that anybody would be interested in coaching there.

Alvis butchered the Kiffin situation so badly that his sanity is no longer in question.
No, he IS certifiably insane.

Fassel has coached in Oakland, he's had reasonable success as a head coach, and ... if the source is accurate ... might want the job.

What's the delay, Al?
Sign him now before he comes to his senses. haha

Don't worry about the game next year, Anthony.

McNubb could be ignorant of half the NFL rulebook and he's still find a way to crush the Faiders under his heel.

Dark dark days in Oakland.

I hope he takes the helm. He is too good of a Coach to sit back.

Or maybe Al Davis will beat Cleveland to the punch and hire Marty Schottenheimer!

But, would Schottenheimer even entertain taking that job? I would have to think any job he takes is either going to have to give him the opportunity to compete for a Super Bowl in the short term or pay him handsomely and I don't see the Oakland job providing either of those scenarios in the near future. The main reason Oakland keeps getting second rate coaches is because Davis does not want to pay them anything.

My bad for not attaching the appropriate emoticon, denoting what I thought was obvious sarcasm (strange, but I did the same thing on another message board the other night, and people took me seriously there too).

Yeah, see, the problem is sarcastic statements like that are easily lost in translation when talking about Davis because nothing he does surprises anyone any more.
