I thought the rule was you lost the OT point if you pull the goalie. Dallas got a point in OT last night against Wild with gaolie pulled. What am I not getting? Thanks in advance for info.

Welcome to the SCMB, Karen. I'll let the hockey gurus around here (
) handle your question, but I wanted to welcome you aboard. I'm glad to have you here, hopefully you can tell us a little more about yourself in our cozy Lounge board.

Karen M -- Hello!! As the moderator of this board here at the SCMB, I'd also like to welcome you.
You aren't missing anything -- the NHL has not put this rule into its rule book as of yet. However, its cheif minor league, the American Hockey League (AHL), does have it. They have the same system where both teams get one point after regulation if the score is tied. A second is awarded to the team that scores in OT. However, if they score when the goalie is pulled, the team that pulled the goalie has their point taken away -- just as you described. Simple answer: AHL has this rule; NHL doesn't. |

Thank you all very much for the most cordial welcome, and to Lee for answering my question. I would have prefered seeing Dallas lose the point. I got a thing against them since the cup win on a goal that shouldn't have counted. Hey, i'm starting to warm up to Hasek, maybe in a couple of seasons i'll let go of the Dallas thing. :-)I've been looking for a hockey board since last year, when msnbc closed down shop. I like this place, and think i'll stick around. Thanks again.
