Question 2002 Pro Football Rankings Week 16

Rankings include all games played from Sept. 5th through Dec. 23rd. See where your favorite team is ranked and why.

1.-PHILADELPHIA EAGLES--(12-3)-.800-(PF-408-PA-231)-The Eagles beat Dallas for the second time this season, 27-3 in Dallas. Philadelphia has scored the most points in their franchise history in a single season and matched their most wins. Linebacker Shawn Barber, Eagles, returned an interception in the fourth quarter 80-yards for a touchdown. The Eagles have home field advantage throughout the playoffs since Tampa Bay lost Monday night to Pittsburgh. Next game Dec. 28th against the New York Giants. I pick New York to win.

2.-GREEN BAY PACKERS--(12-3)-.800(PF-381-PA-286)-The Packers defeated Buffalo, 10-0 at home in Green Bay. Green Bay is the only team this season to have a perfect 8-0 record at home. Wide receiver Donald Driver caught an 11-yard pass for a touchdown in the fourth quarter from Brett Favre. Defensive end Vonnie Holliday(6-5-290) had five sacks against Drew Bledsoe, setting a new team record. Incredible! Holliday had only one sack prior to this game. Next game Dec. 29th against the New York Jets at New York. I pick the New York Jets to win.

3.-OAKLAND RAIDERS--(10-5)-.667-(PF-426-PA-304)-The Raiders defeated Denver, 28-16 in Oakland. Oakland clinched its third straight AFC West title. Quarterback Rich Gannon was 18-of-27 for 201 yards and one touchdown. Not his best game, but good enough to win. Gannon leads the NFL in passing yardage with 4,610 yards. Running back Charlie Garner caught eight passes for 91 yards and one touchdown. Defensive end Trace Armstrong, Raiders, had three sacks on the day for the defense. Armstrong is a 13-year NFL veteran who played his college ball for Florida. Defensive back Rod Woodson leads the AFC in interceptions with seven. The old man still has it in him. Next game Dec. 28th against Kansas City in Oakland. I pick Oakland to win.

4.-TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS--(11-4)-.690-(PF-331-PA-196)-The Bucs lost to Pittsburgh, 17-7 at home in Tampa on Monday Night Football. Quarterback Brad Johnson was out with a sore back and Shaun King was his replacement. King was totally ineffective. King completed 9-of-26 for 73 yards and he threw one interception. Rob Johnson later replaced him. Wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson caught eight passes for 132 yards and scored one touchdown. Johnson has 71 receptions on the year and over 1,000 yards receiving for Tampa Bay. Next game Dec. 29th against Chicago at Chicago. I pick Tampa Bay to win.

5.-TENNESSEE TITANS--(10-5)-.667-(PF-354-PA-321)-The Titans defeated Jacksonville, 28-10 in Jacksonville. Running back Eddie George rushed for 89 yards on 21 carries and scored two rushing touchdowns. George went over the 1,000 yard rushing mark with Sunday's performance. Defensive end Jevon Kearse who had been injured most the season had two sacks for the Titans defense. Great to have him back going into the playoffs. Next game Dec. 29th against Houston in Houston. I pick Tennessee to win.

6.-SAN FRANCISCO 49ers--(10-5)-.667-(PF-347-PA-320)-The 49ers beat Arizona, 17-14 in Arizona. San Francisco had 358 yards of total net offense, compared to Arizona's 184. Quarterback Jeff Garcia completed 23-of-39 for 256 yards and one touchdown. Garcia did throw one interception. Defensive end Andre Carter, 49ers, had two sacks for the defense. Carter now has 11 sacks on the season. Next game Dec. 30th against St. Louis at St. Louis on Monday Night Football. I pick San Francisco to win.

7.-NEW YORK GIANTS--(9-6)-.600-(PF-310-PA-272)-The Giants beat Indianapolis, 44-27 in Indianapolis. Very impressive win for New York. The Giants are still in the mix for a playoff spot. Quarterback Kerry Collins was 23-of-29 for 366 yards and four touchdowns. Job well done. His best wide receiver Amani Toomer caught 10 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Wow! Toomer has 1,286 yards in receiving and 80 receptions for the season. Rookie tight end Jeremy Shockey caught seven passes for 116 yards. Next game Dec. 28th against Philadelphia at New York.

8.-PITTSBURGH STEELERS--(9-5-1)-.633-(PF-356-PA-314)-Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay, 17-7 in Tampa on Monday Night Football. The Steelers clinched the AFC North with that important win. Rookie wide receiver Antwaan Randle El, Steelers, caught an 11-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter for the first score of the game. Chad Scott playing defense for Pittsburgh returned an interception in the first quarter for a 30-yard score. Next game Dec. 29th against Baltimore in Pittsburgh. I pick Pittsburgh to win.

9.-MIAMI DOLPHINS--(9-6)-.600-(PF-354-PA-274)-The Dolphins lost to Minnesota, 20-17 in Minnesota. The Vikings kicker Gary Anderson beat Miami with a 53-yard field goal with about 17 seconds left in regulation. Miami could have clinched the AFC East with a win. Running back Ricky Williams was held to just 67 yards rushing on 15 carries. Safety Brock Marion, Dolphins, led the defense with nine tackles and one interception. Next game Dec. 29th against New England in New England. I pick Miami to win.

10.-ATLANTA FALCONS--(9-5-1)-.633-(PF-386-PA-290)-The Falcons beat Detroit, 36-15 in Atlanta. Atlanta's offense rolled up 533 yards of total net offense against the Lions. Quarterback Michael Vick was 20-of-38 for 337 yards and two touchdowns. Vick did toss one interception. Wide receiver Quentin McCord, Falcons, caught seven passes for 182 yards and one touchdown. McCord playing in his second year in the NFL played his college ball for Kentucky. Kicker Jay Feely kicked five successful field goals in Sunday's win, from 20, 23, 23, 36 and 39 yards. Next game Dec. 29th against Cleveland at Cleveland. I pick Cleveland to win.

11.-INDIANAPOLIS COLTS--(9-6)-.600-(PF-329-PA-300)-The Colts lost to the Giants, 44-27 at home in Indy. Quarterback Peyton Manning was 30-of-46 for 365 yards and three touchdowns. Manning threw two interceptions. Manning has thrown for 4,054 yards so far this season. Wide receiver Marvin Harrison caught 10 passes for 128 yards and one touchdown. Harrison leads the NFL in receptions with 137. His teammate Reggie Wayne caught two touchdown passes and had over 100 yards receiving for the day. Next game Dec. 29th against Jacksonville in Indianapolis. I pick Indianapolis to win.

12.-NEW YORK JETS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-317-PA-319)-The Jets defeated New England, 30-17 in New England. Quarterback Chad Pennington completed 23-of-33 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Curtis Martin went over the 1,000 yard rushing mark for the eighth consecutive season, with his performance Sunday night. Martin gained 106 yards on 29 carries. Retired running back Barry Sanders holds the NFL record for rushing for over 1,000 yards for 10 consecutive seasons. Next game Dec. 29th against Green Bay at New York.

13.-NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-354-PA-322)-The Patriots lost to New York on ESPN Sunday Night Football, 30-17 at home in New England. New England will win the division if it beats Miami this coming week and New York loses to Green Bay because the Patriots will have the better division record than the Dolphins. Next game Dec. 29th against Miami at New England. Ought to be a good one.

14.-CLEVELAND BROWNS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-320-PA-304)-The Browns edged Baltimore, 14-13 in Baltimore. Cleveland is 2-5 playing at home and 6-2 when playing away. Quarterback Tim Couch capped a frantic drive with a 1-yard touchdown pass to Mark Campbell with 29 seconds left and kicker Phil Dawson kicked the extra point to win the game. The winning drive covered 92 yards in just over two minutes. Next game Dec. 29th against Atlanta at Cleveland.

15.-NEW ORLEANS SAINTS--(9-6)-.600-(PF-426-PA-378)-The Saints lost to the lowly Cincinnati Bengals, 20-13 in Cincinnati. New Orleans looked like the team that had won only one game this season. Quarterback Aaron Brooks, Saints, was upset I heard because he wasn't selected to the Pro Bowl. Sunday's game proved he didn't deserve it after all. Brooks completed 16-of-38 passes for 203 yards and one touchdown. The top running back in the NFC, Deuce McAllister could gain only 26 yards on the day. Now rookie wide receiver, Donte Stallworth played well for the Saints catching six passes for 111 yards and one touchdown. Next game Dec. 29th against Carolina at New Orleans. I pick New Orleans to win.

16.-KANSAS CITY CHIEFS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-467-PA-375)-The Chiefs defeated San Diego, 24-22 in Kansas City. Kicker Michael Husted, who replaced the injured Morten Andersen kicked a 38-yard field goal with just 1:08 left in the game to win it for his team. The Chiefs clinched their first non-losing season in three years. Quarterback Trent Green threw a 99-yard touchdown pass to Mark Boerigter in the third quarter, tying the NFL's record for longest completion. Green threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns on the day. Next game Dec. 28th against Oakland in Oakland.

17.-DENVER BRONCOS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-355-PA-337)-The Broncos lost to Oakland, 28-16 in Oakland. Running back Clinton Portis rushed for 52 yards on 12 carries and scored one touchdown. Quarterback Brian Griese(7-of-15 for 48 yards and two interceptions) had a bad game in the loss to the Raiders, and he feels like his playing days with Denver are over since quarterback Steve Beuerlein will start in Sunday's game against Arizona. Denver must win that game to stand a chance of going to the playoffs. Next game Dec. 29th against Arizona in Denver. I pick Denver to win.

18.-SAN DIEGO CHARGERS--(8-7)-.533-(PF-305-PA-336)-The Chargers lost to Kansas City, 24-22 in KC. Running back LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 131 yards on 21 carries. Tomlinson ranks second in the NFL in rushing with 1,616 yards. Next game Dec. 29th against Seattle in San Diego. I pick Seattle to win.

19.-BALTIMORE RAVENS--(7-8)-.467-(PF-285-PA-320)-The Ravens lost to Cleveland, 14-13 at home in Baltimore. Running back Jamal Lewis rushed for 100 yards on 21 carries. Lewis has rushed for 1,241 yards so far this season. Great comeback after missing last season with an injury. Linebacker Peter Boulware, Ravens, on defense had two sacks in that loss to Cleveland. Next game Dec. 29th against Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh.

20.-BUFFALO BILLS--(7-8)-.467-(PF-352-PA-388)-The Bills were shutout by Green Bay, 10-0 in Green Bay. Buffalo quarterback Drew Bledsoe threw two costly interceptions. Bledsoe also fumbled three times after being sacked five times by Green Bay's Vonnie Holliday. Bills punter Mike Moorman had a team record 84-yard punt in the Green Bay game. Next game Dec. 29th against Cincinnati in Buffalo. I pick Buffalo to win.

21.-JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS--(6-9)-.400-(PF-315-PA-295)-The Jags lost to Tennessee, 28-10 at home in Jacksonville. This loss could help send Jaguars head coach Tom Coughlin to the unemployment line after the season is over. This is Jacksonville's third straight losing season. The crowd of 51,000 booed Coughlin frequently during the game. Next game Dec. 29th against Indianapolis in Indy.

22.-CAROLINA PANTHERS--(6-9)-.400-(PF-248-PA-296)-The Panthers beat Chicago, 24-14 in Carolina. Carolina 0-8 at home during last year's 1-15 season, improved to .500 at Ericsson Stadium by turning a bunch of Chicago fumbles into a victory. The Panthers recovered four fumbles and forced Chicago to punt 10 times. Dee Brown scored two touchdowns for the Panthers. Next game Dec. 29th against New Orleans in New Orleans.

23.-SEATTLE SEAHAWKS--(6-9)-.400-(PF-324-PA-341)-Seattle defeated St. Louis, 30-10 in Seattle. Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck threw for 303 yards and one touchdown. Completing 20-of-32 passes. Seattle is 5-4 since Hasselbeck replaced the injured Trent Dilfer and has won two games in a row. Reggie Tongue, Seahawks, had two of his team's three interceptions. Next game Dec. 29th against San Diego in Seattle.

24.-WASHINGTON REDSKINS--(6-9)-.400-(PF-287-PA-351)-The Redskins beat Houston, 26-10 at Washington. Quarterback Patrick Ramsey threw two touchdown passes as the Redskins broke a three-game losing streak. Rookie Ladell Betts rushed for 116 yards on 20 carries and scored one touchdown. Betts played his college ball for Iowa. The other running back Kenny Watson rushed for 110 yards on 20 carries. Next game Dec. 29th against Dallas in Washington. I pick Washington to win.

25.-St. Louis Rams-(6-9)-.400-(PF-285-PA-349)-The Rams lost to Seattle, 30-10 in Seattle. St. Louis quarterback Marc Bulger hurt his back, and a CT Scan revealed no broken bones. Bulger will undergo further tests this week. Jamie Martin took his place and completed 31-of-48 for 259 yards and one touchdown. But he threw three interceptions. Marshall Faulk gained 19 yards on nine carries. Next game Dec. 30th against San Francisco at St. Louis on Monday Night Football.

26.-MINNESOTA VIKINGS--(5-10)-.333-(PF-352-PA-406)-The Vikings beat Miami, 20-17 in Minnesota. Kicker Gary Andersen kicked a 53-yard field goal to win the game in the fourth quarter. Minnesota's defense held Miami to 13 first downs. Randy Moss caught seven passes for 110 yards. Next game Dec. 29th against Detroit in Detroit. I pick Minnesota to win.

27.-ARIZONA CARDINALS--(5-10)-.333-(PF-255-PA-380)-The Cardinals lost to San Francisco, 17-14 in Arizona. Quarterback Jake Plummer may have played his last home game as a Cardinal. Plummer almost engineered his 22nd fourth quarter comeback victory. His contract runs out after this season. Next game Dec. 29th against Denver in Denver.

28.-DALLAS COWBOYS--(5-10)-.333-(PF-203-PA-209)-The Cowboys lost to Philadelphia, 27-3 at Dallas. Dallas' offense ranks 13th in the NFC, averaging 164.9 yards per game. Running back Emmitt Smith rushed for 30 yards on eight carries. Next game Dec. 29th against Washington at Washington.

29.-CHICAGO BEARS--(4-11)-.267-(PF-281-PA-364)-The Bears lost to Carolina, 24-14 in Carolina. Linebacker Brian Urlacher led the defense against the Panthers with 11 tackles. Urlacher leads the NFL in tackles with 141. Next game Dec. 29th against Tampa Bay at Chicago.

30.-HOUSTON TEXANS--(4-11)-.267-(PF-210-PA-343)-Houston lost to Washington, 26-10 at Washington. Quarterback David Carr was sacked an NFL-record 73 times this season when Bruce Smith took him down late in the fourth quarter. Hope he has some good medical insurance. Next game Dec. 29th against Tennesee in Houston.

31.-DETROIT LIONS--(3-11)-.200-(PF-270-PA-413)-The Lions lost to Atlanta, 36-15 in Atlanta. Quarterback Mike McMahon completed 11-of-33 for 149 yards and two touchdowns, but he threw three interceptions. Next game Dec. 29th against Minnesota in Detroit.

32.-CINCINNATI BENGALS--(2-13)-.133-(PF-270-PA-429)-The Bengals beat heavily favored New Orleans, 20-13 in Cincinnati. The Bengals only home win of the season. Running back Corey Dillon rushed for 126 yards on 18 carries. Dillon has 1,258 yards rushing this season with one game left. Wide receiver Peter Warrick caught seven passes for 71 yards and one touchdown. The Bengals sold only 43,544 tickets for the Saints game, and there were only 25,000 to 30,000 in the stands to see Cincinnati win their first home game. Next game Dec. 29th against Buffalo in Buffalo.

"The Eagles have home field advantage throughout the playoffs since Tampa Bay lost Monday night to Pittsburgh. Next game Dec. 28th against the New York Giants. I pick New York to win."

I agree with your power rankings but this statement is not true. The packers could have home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a philly lose and a packer win this week (hopefully wont happen)

Well, this is a must-win for Cleveland, and not a must-win for Atlanta.

Well it would be good for the Falcons to win so we don't have to worry about the Giants or Saints game.

Sorry about the mistake on home field advantage and I'm rooting for Atlanta to win, but Cleveland can be a tough place to win, especially in the bitter cold.

I just find it hard for me to not pick the team i'm rooting for. But hopefully the Giants lose today so we won't have to win.

The Giants will lose. The Giants stink and they're confident. They're ripe for a loss. I actually rooted for the Giants to beat the Colts last week, just so they could control their own playoff destiny against the Eagles. I'm gonna love seeing the Eagles squash their hopes and dreams, it'll be a beautiful thing.

Giants have owned Philly over the last 5 years or so....with the exception of a Philly sweep last season. The Giants even got a playoff victory in 2000 over Philly...when the Giants went to the Super Bowl. And to be honest, the Giants beat the Eagles much worse than the final score indicated. The Refs also called 2 phantom holding penalties against the Giants that took away 14 points. Giants, are much better than folks are giving them credit for....they are playing better on both sides of the football than anyone in the NFC over the last 4 weeks. Look it up if you need to!

Refs sucked big time in that game.

I concur the refs had a bad game and should be disciplined for it.

Really. I mean the Giants were cheated out of not 1, BUT 2 TD's that would have easily won the game for them.
