Colorado State quarterback Nick Stevens is excited to get on the field this weekend and lead his team to victory.

Even though Colorado State and Oregon State aren't big name teams, Stevens believes there will be plenty of eyes watching the game because it will be the first Division 1 game of the college football season. And fans who have been eagerly anticipating the start of the season will be excited to watch some football, even if they don't care about the teams playing.

Stevens also feels the teams will gain a few fans after the game is over. The quarterback recalled when he was a kid and didn't know much about football, he saw the Rams on television and became a fan. He is now leading the team he watched as a kid and thinks it's great.

The game, which will be televised on CBS, will also be watched by a lot of Oregon State fans, who will tune in to see their team's first game in their new stadium.

The game will also be the first of two nationally-televised games on Saturday. The second game will be the season opener for BYU and Portland State, which will begin at 3 PM EST.

Even though the Colorado State game will only be televised for 30 minutes before the network switches to the BYU game, Stevens said his teammates are excited about being on national television.

Stevens added that over the summer, he was constantly seeing countdown clocks on Twitter and other social media, counting down the number of days until the start of the college football season. The reaction he saw from other users let him know just how much people were anticipating the start of the season, especially after the dog days of summer where the only sport to watch is baseball.

The wait wasn't as bad last year because the summer Olympics gave sports fans a distraction before the football season started. Since there were no Olympics or World Cup this year, sports fans didn't have a lot of options.

Stevens also said he was happy Colorado State gets a chance to be on television at the beginning of the season because it allows fans to watch a team they usually don't get to see a lot of. Stevens said that he and his teammates plan to show the rest of the country that Colorado State has a good football team this year, and the people watching will likely tune in to see more of the Rams if they play well on Saturday.

Wide receiver Detrich Clark called it a surreal experience to look back to his younger days when he was dreaming about playing on the big stage. Now he is only a day away from playing in a nationally-televised game.

Rams coach Mike Bobo has been talking to his team since January about the opportunity they have this weekend and believes playing in the first game of the season is a big deal to his players.
