NFL Week 1 Tips and Predictions

The 2017 NFL regular season begins on Thursday with the reigning Lombardi Trophy holders, the New England Patriots, hosting Andy Reid and his Kansas City Chiefs. While the Patriots will rightfully get the top billing on opening weekend, there are a few other games that promise to provide a lot of excitement for fans.

In what could be a preview of a potential playoffs matchups, the Oakland Raiders will travel to Nashville to take on the Tennessee Titans. After finishing 12-4 last season, the Raiders enter the season with the third-best 2017 football season odds to win the Super Bowl.

The Titans finished 9-7 last year, which was the second best record in the AFC South, and like the Raiders, they are expected to be better this season.

Leading the way for both teams are two of the best young signal-callers in the league. Derek Carr, who is entering his third year in the league, led the Raiders to the best record in the conference and the AFC West division lead before suffering a season-ending in the second to last game of the season.

Many believe if Carr was healthy, the Raiders would have given the Patriots a tough challenge in the playoffs. However, they didn't have him available and they could not defeat the Houston Texans in the first round of the playoffs.

With Oakland signing Marshawn Lynch in the offseason, they will be favored to win a lot of games this season.

The Titans have a great offensive line, but it will be tested by the Raiders' defense, led by Khalil Mack. If the offensive line holds up and gives Marcus Mariota some time, he should be able to carve up the Raiders' secondary.

Mariota and his Titans are 2-point favorites going into this game; the over/under is 50.5 points. Expect to see a high-scoring game with the Raiders coming out on top.

Matthew Stafford and his Detroit Lions open up the season against Carson Palmer and his Arizona Cardinals teammates, but find themselves 1.5-point underdogs. The Lions will once again lean heavily on Matthew Stafford this season, but they will have a more balanced attack than they did last year, with Theo Riddick returning from injury.

The Cardinals underperformed last year, but have one of the best running backs in David Johnson and veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald, so they will be explosive on the offensive end again.

Expect another high-scoring game with Detroit getting the win.

Here are our picks for the remaining games of the week.

Prop bets are more popular during the playoffs, but there are some value picks to be made if you do a little research.

In Week 1, the best prop bet seems to be who will be the first player to score a touchdown this season. Right now, Kansas City's Kareem Hunt is the favorite at 6-1. This is a likely scenario since Spencer Ware was injured during the preseason and Hunt will get the most carries at running back.

Rob Gronkowski comes in second at 13-2, while running back Mike Gillislee is third at 15-2. Travis Kelce, 17-2, Brandin Cooks, 9-1, James White, 10-1, and Tyreek Hill, 10-1, round up the list.

Since it's more likely the Patriots score first, we are picking James White to score the first touchdown of the season.
