Trade Deadline
The trading deadline is just a few weeks away. What deals do you expect to see?

I think a probable one is the Leafs acquiring a goalie (Kidd or Irbe are my predictions), and also Selanne being moved. Kinda sad seeing as how he's my fav player, but Selanne seems to be a guy that moves around a lot and is like a "rent-A-player" for the playoffs. I think he'll be moved out of San Jose this deadline.

Any other rumors?

SC's Vishal Patel reported some good scoops in his latest article:

Teams short on finances like the Rangers, Bruins, and Blackhawks have made the all-star likes of Mike Richter, Bill Guerin, and Tony Amonte available to injury-plagued teams like Detroit, Dallas, and other top guns.

Others will be looking to clear away dissidents at the home front - the locker room. Among the most voiced and rumored players since the start of the season, Bobby Holik has suitors in Colorado and San Jose and the Devils will be looking to grab up and coming players like defenseman Martin Skoula and possibly forwards Marco Sturm or Patrick Marleau, respectively.

Expect others like Adam Oates, whose trade out of Washington has been delayed, and Teemu Selanne, who doesn't seem to be the best fit for the rough and tough San Jose team. Since hockey in Pittsburgh has officially ceased for the season due to Lemuiex's injury, unrestricted free agent to-be Darius Kasparitis could be made available. His superb checking make him an ideal fit on almost any team.

Ya -- Kasparitus could be good for the Leafs... to win a Cup, obviously, they need CuJo back, but I think they could afford a forward for a guy like Kasparitus.

However, at the GM meetings that took place over the past few days and just wrapped up today down in Florida, GMs made it clear that end-of-season free agents like Selanne, Geurin, and Dafoe would NOT be moving anywhere.

Tom Barrasso (sp??) will probably be headed out of Carolina with the addition of Weekes

lmanchur. 03-08-2002 09:31 AM

Ya -- that Weekes deal kinda surprised me --who does TB have now for a backup??

Weekes/Irbe is a good combo and with his age and contract expiring, Barrasso seems to fit well for any team that needs a short-term goaltending fix right now.

icas 03-08-2002 09:41 PM

I have no clue who'll be TB's back-up... i think it's Evgeny Konstantinov... but i'm not even sure about that one

icas 03-08-2002 09:43 PM

you know if these teams looking for goaltending were smart... they'd go for luongo... if that guy got onto a good team, he'd lead them to the stanley cup i bet...

J_Sinclair 03-10-2002 06:25 PM

you're right, luongo is freakin' amazing, i remember him at the juniors a few years ago, i knew he would be a top goalie in the nhl....but i doubt florida would trade luongo, and if they did, they'd expect a lot in return.........

lmanchur. 03-10-2002 10:32 PM

Ya... whatever team Loungo on would be a Stanley Cup team if they had a good defense... just like Khabby in Tampa... just like Fernendez in Minnesota (OK, maybe not him as much but you get my point).

In todays LA Times, it said that the Kings are looking for a "high scoring forward." Also Dave Taylor was quoted as saying "we'd love to make an addition or two..."

also check this out about the Panthers thinking of trading Pavel Bure...

J_Sinclair 03-11-2002 03:32 AM

well this seems like a pretty easy trade......What does L.A. have a lot of - GOALIES (felix potvin, jamie storr and stephane fiset)

What does toronto need - A GOALIE

what doess toronto have a lot of - HIGH SCORING FORWARDS

JONAS HOGLUND TO LOS ANGELAS FOR JAMIE STORR....i think that's a done deal...storr's still young has some potential...but with potvin he wont' be used much...and hoglund's scored more then 20 goals in his last two seasons......GOOD DEAL

J_Sinclair 03-11-2002 03:36 AM

i was just at and i saw that st. louis was in need of a goalie too....i guess it was kidna stupid of me to assume that toronto was the only team lookin for a goalie....the blues a lot of high scoring forwards....but they dont have enough depth...they traded all their depth to phoenix for tkachuck and to edmonton for doug weight.......i dotn thin edmonton could afford to lose a high scoring forward.....and i think the leafs are more desperate for a i still see the hoglund storr trade happening.

J_Sinclair 03-11-2002 03:45 AM

Are The Leafs Getting A Defensemen?!
with the whole "cujo's out, leafs need a goalie" ordeal, a lot of people are forgettin about yuskevich being out too...the leafs also need a defensemen...kasparatis would be a good fit in toronto...but he probably wont' even be traded....but i heard thsi trade:
Cory Cross and prospects for Lyle Odelein...
if the leafs got odelien that woudl make their defense one of the best in the NHL for the playoffs...lookat this defense core
McCabe - kaberle
Yushkevich - Odelien
Lumme - Berg

Odelein is an experienced high-leve energy player who plays his position...with him and yushkevich it would be very hard to get past that defense...also, odelien won a stanley cup in 93 ....

lmanchur. 03-11-2002 09:30 AM

Ya, but St. Louis is always looking for a goalie!! -- there should be no surprise on that front, but I am surprised that LA is looking for a "high scoring forward" and that the Panthers are thinking of trading P.Bure -- guess what we saw between P & V Bure in the 2000 ASG doesn't actually work during in the regular season!!

I think the Leafs are looking for only a short-term goalie with a lot of playoff experience (e.g.: Barrasso) instead of a young goalie -- they already have that in that Sebastain whatever-his-last-name-is.

icas 03-11-2002 05:46 PM

Storr's not going anywhere.... Fiset's the one on the trading block... in fact they've been trying to deal him since the beginning of the season...
