NBA Thought of the Day: February

LeBron is in Madison Square Garden tonight. The last home game for the Knicks saw Kobe drop 61! People are wondering if LeBron will try to top him. Kind of a "anything you can do, I can do better!" I think it's doubtful because a lot of factors have to go your way to get 50+. Gotta love the defensive intensity Mike D'Antoni apparently has brought to the Knicks...

The Wizards are in last place.

* I'll be making this same post in NBA Thought of the Day: March in about 4 weeks.

52, 11, and 10 in the Garden by LeBron. That is more impressive than Kobe's 61 (with 0 rebounds). Freakin' incredible. There is no doubt who is the best player on this planet...

Well, if you're talking Kobe vs. Lebron, it's Kobe. Kobe just has some things in his game that Lebron doesn't have. While Lebron is a better finisher close to the basket and driving the basket, Kobe more than makes up for that by having a much better shooting repertoire. Kobe, with the flu today, hit a rainbow fade shot over Lebron to put the Lakers up 6 with just under 3 minutes to go, Lebron doesn't even have that shot in his arsenal.

The big thing about that, is that Lebron against weaker opponents will look as good as Kobe, but against strong opponents, you have to go with Kobe. The reason is because good defensive teams can do a bit more to stop Lebron's driving to the basket game, force him to take outside shots, like the Lakers did today. When that, happens, Lebron is not nearly as good.

Lebron had 12 assists, 8 rebounds tonight, but wasn't a huge effect on the outcome of the game. So, I'm not really going to chalk him up because he can fill up the stat sheet better, it's about impact on a game.

Anyone hear about the NBA having a game of H-O-R-S-E at the All-Star Weekend? But they sold-out and it's going to be a game of G-E-I-C-O. :wtf:

Kobe is still the king for a little while longer. Lebron will be king soon enough.

Amare is a p-ussy.

*hey, it's a thought and a fact...2 fer 1

TNT Double-Header (2.12.09)

First game: Chicago-Miami (Miami leads 87-86 with a couple minutes left)

Second game: Dallas-Boston

Pyro 02-12-2009 10:54 PM

Miami beat Chicago 95-93. Ben Gordon drew a foul from three and made all of his free throws to tie it up at 93, Hinrich got a steal from Wade at the other end and called a time out. Wade stole the inbounds pass from Chicago and called a timeout with about 3 seconds left, and Shawn Marion was able to make the game-winning dunk with 1 second left.

Porter out in Phoenix: http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3910443

This allows assistant Alvin Gentry (former Clippers coach, IIRC) to take over and he will run a more running style, similar to D'Antoni. Might be a good move for the team as you get the feeling Porter and his style were never liked. But hard to fire a guy with a winning record in his first season; he barely had a chance.

Marc 02-18-2009 10:38 PM

Wow, Phoenix scored 140 points and 40+ first quarter points under Gentry. Talk about a sudden, dramatic turnaround! Unbelievable...

In other news, T-Mac is out for the season with a bum knee. Sad story, he won't have a chance to choke in the first round of the playoffs again...

HibachiDG 02-19-2009 12:34 AM

Camby is out for the Clippers, doesn't seem like they have much of a presence inside and Shaq/Amare are just killing them in there. The FG% in that game last night was really high for the Suns frontcourt and tonight is more of the same.

Shocker. T-Mac never gets hurt.

It will be interesting to see if Houston steps up its pursuit of Vince Carter now that McGrady is on the shelf for the year.

Master 02-20-2009 12:19 AM

what is it with T-Mac and Yao... just injury after injury.
it's like they're cursed or something.
those two and this Rockets team should be fighting for contention.
but instead we can pretty much count on one or the other being injured.
pathetic.

doublee 02-20-2009 10:00 AM

Yao's injuries are due mostly to him being so big and his body not being able to support the rigorous physical activity he puts it through. He carries around 300 lbs and running up and down the floor night after night is going to lead to wear and tear on your feet and knees.
