Looks like he's happy to be in camp.

The Brewers and Trevor Hoffman have agreed on a 1 year deal with an option for a 2nd year: http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/1...-one-year-deal

The playoff matchups are set now. The Twins beat the Tigers 6-5 in 12 innings. It was a very, very exciting game and I'm looking forward to seeing what Brian Duensing can do in the Bronx tomorrow.

So far the umpiring is leaving something to be desired. Through three innings they have already blown two calls in Philly's favor.

HibachiDG 10-07-2009 03:30 PM

What was the second blown call? Torrealba was safe, but arguing the Lee call I assume was just Tracy playing mindgames with 2 strikes on Rollins.

Wind looks pretty crazy there.

The pick-off at second. It looked like the umpire missed Tulowitzki getting the tag on the runner before he got back to the bag.

HibachiDG 10-07-2009 03:40 PM

Looked like he tagged him between the legs when the lead leg was back on the bag. It was basically the same thing as Torrealba's. I think the 2nd base ump got it right, but the third base ump missed his.

Unless they were arguing that Lee came off the bag at 2nd after the tag.

Good to see the Phillies off to a good start hitting. The wind seems to really be effecting the game now. Werth looked like he had a homer that the wind kept in, and Rollins just took a crazy path to grab a pop up.

Supposed to be windy for the Yankees game tonight as well.

Awesome story on Brandon Inge in between games.

Interesting that Manuel let Lee throw the complete game despite having a five run lead after six innings.

Boy, the Twins are helping Sabathia out by swinging at some bad pitches.

Definitely agree. The way CC has been beaten in the postseason the last couple of times out is by patience, and the Twins aren't necessarily showing a lot of it.

Lee finished with only 114 pitches. You can't pull him out there, especially when they have a game tomorrow.

I agree on both counts, Doug. I would not have had any problem leaving Lee in the game. He was doing very well and was not in any trouble, even though he gave up a run.
As to the Twins swinging at bad pitches, they did. Adrenalin has a tendency to make people do something dumb once in a while.

I agree about the story on Inge. He is one of the genuine good guys in baseball now. The sport needs more people like him.

WOW!!!!!....Another blown call by the umpires change the outcome of a playoff game...

The ball that Mauer hit down the line was fair by a good 4 inches ,with the umpire staring directly at it....which means he scores on any hit following...and while I do agree the Twins had chances after that, and failed to capitalize......the call still changes everything and ends up costing them 1 run.... minimum and possibly the game.....

The other call I'm referring to was the non-call on the ball that hit Branden Inge in the 12 inning of the Tigers /Twins playoff game ...and again it cost the Tigers a run and in turn changed the outcome of the game...

The third call(while I was not watching the game -but saw replays,) was Torrealba OBVIOUSLY being safe at third.....

and while I dont believe that "MLB" has teams it wants to see win ...both calls would give "conspiracy theorists" a very good arguement....

instant replay would have changed/corrected both of these calls....so maybe its time to start using it more.....
if you want the truth....I'd like to see them introduce it for balls and strikes(which ,with todays technology, would be VERY easy to do)......
and would take away any variances in the "strike zone"..which change dramatically with some of the umpires....

Forget your "traditionalist " saying human calls are "just part of the game"
this is 2009 lets get the calls right anyway possible....so that its ALL decided by the players.....NOT the Umpires...

Just hate to see games/series/seasons determined or altered by an umpire who may be having a bad day(which we all do) for whatever reason---
and remember these are only the calls in the first few games of the playoffs, so that we ALL saw them--how about the rest of the year during everyday games when only a few (relatively) were watching

In the words of "Sir Charles"
Turrible...just turrible
