Kobe scores 81?!

holy ****ing ****.

El Jefe 01-23-2006 02:15 AM

I jumped in right when the 2nd half started. 55 points later, I'm still in shock.

[edit]I guess the official tally was 27 for the 3rd, 28 for the 4th. Damn my fading addition skills![/edit]

If Kobe's performance this year isn't screaming MVP, I don't know what is.

GilbertArenas 01-23-2006 01:05 PM

holy bananas batman, what an effort. it's got to add to his MVP votes. big day for sports/nba history yesterday.

im just happy i got to see some of it. in case you missed it, here's a video clip that shows each one of Mr. Bryant 81 points against the Raptors. 81. wow that's a lot.

[cheap shot]

Q: Why did it take so long to Shawndo to post about his favorite player's legendary performance?

A: The ejaculation has finally just now stopped.

I was just kidden... we really do need a sarcasm icon!!! I bet he wishes he didn't ask to be taken out of his 61 (or whatever) point game.

Shawndo 01-23-2006 05:27 PM

I wonder if Buckeyefan78 will be able to find anything bad to say about this one... ;)

buckeyefan78 01-23-2006 05:51 PM

(yawn)...where's the beef? (ring)

MJ could have done this in the mid 90s, NOT 80s (real b-ball players would have never allowed this...McHale or Rambis would have took his head off at 50 something). Magic used to get triple-doubles at halftime and rested because his team was going for...shock...a ring! He could have had a game of 20-20-20 if he wanted...much more impressive esp. since it would have been in a season that determined a banner, not if the his squad was going to draft 16 or 17 that June.

Score 81 points= 1 victory.

Limit turnovers, work within the triangle, consistently shoot a high percentage= hope for a ring and my praise

boston_aloha 01-23-2006 06:07 PM

Not so sure McHale would of "took his head off". Remember, in Bird's 60 point game against Altlanta - his teammates were passing him the ball to give him more shots (like the classic 3 pointer while falling out of bounds - Larry was amazing!) That year Bird was second in the league in scoring (28.7) and 3-point shooting (42.7 percent) and won another MVP award.
Now I do agree with you about the ring Buckeye. That same year was the classic Bird-Magic Finals rematch. Although the Celtics won the first game by 34 points, the Lakers won four of the next five and got the rings. So 60 point game = 1 victory, well put Buckeye.

I'm not a Kobe fan, but I would argue that if it was someone more likeable, they'd be getting props, not "81 points = 1 win." It's an amazing feat.

boston_aloha 01-23-2006 06:49 PM

Of course its an amazing feat. Kobe needs s'thing like this too since most people dislike him. I'm just saying I agree that Championships are more important than personal stats. But hey, its not like he was injured and can't finish the season. He's fine, had a great game.
