"Iron" Eagle

Anybody seen the FOX football announcer called Ian Eagle, but he pronounces it "Iron" Eagle. When I first watched a game he was covering a few weeks back, I thought I misheard him, but now I realise that is how he pronounces it. I bet he thanks his parents every day:rolleyes:

I've heard quite a few of his games, and I've heard him before on WFAN in New York, and I must disagree with your ears. He is saying, "I-an," not "Iron."

Pimpbot 11-24-2003 01:15 PM

Either way it sounds like "Iron". His parents must have been friends with Co-lin Powells folks :D

Never heard of him.

I think he does Nets games too. Never understood why he calls himself I-an.

MountaineerDave 11-25-2003 08:15 PM

I think I-an is an I-diot. I can't remember him ever calling a game the way I thought it should be called. Probably because of the way he pronounces his name.

Devil's advocate: Maybe that's not just what he calls himself, but what his mother calls him, and has always called him, as well.

Pimpbot 11-26-2003 12:53 PM

That doesnt mean we cannot take the piss out of him!(make fun of) :D

MountaineerDave 11-26-2003 03:52 PM

Now, while I've learned some phrases from the British while watching soccer matches, "take the piss out of him" is not something I've ever heard before. I'm not sure it's something I'm likely to want to do, either.... yikes.

Plenty more where that came from, but I think only Heathen would understand me :D

Plenty of folks change their monikers/pronunciations, etc., KB. I wasn't born Dave, obviously, and he could easily have chosen to pronounce his name E-an when he became a broadcaster, if his mama was wierd enough to give him the I-an pronunciation.

You mean your mum didnt name you MountaineerDave at birth?

;)

MountaineerDave 11-26-2003 07:28 PM

Shocking, I know. But, she was more a pro team football follower and a Steelers fan, and would have named me Terry (for Bradshaw) if my pop didn't want a boy running around with a girl's name...

Yeah, that's awful. Just ask Terry Glenn what it's like to run around like a little girl. ;)
