Here is how the last few weeks have gone for me.

As most of you know, I am the store/warehouse manager for a sporting goods store that supplies several state HS and small college teams their sporting supplies, uniforms, etc. We also supply several local rec depts their unis. The last three weeks, we have done 3,000 sets of uniforms. All this after my understudy to take over the warehouse duties quit to find another job. (now he wants back. Tough noogies)

I thought I was finally catching a break. Jennifer (my wife) had a b-day coming up this past Saturday, and I had a huge surprise planned for her. I hate Italian food. She loves it. I was taking her to a local (and very expensive) Italian restaraunt along with some friends of hers. She had no clue. I had been planning this surprise for 4 weeks, getting babysitters (she always handles that) getting her friends phone #s, etc, etc.

Then last Wednsday, her mom called. She was in bad pain and wanted Jen to take her to the doctor. Find out, she has a bulging disc. Also found out that she would be staying with my wife and I for a couple of days. And she's sleeping in my sons bed.

So, not only did my carefully crafted plans get smashed in about the span of an hour, now my son is having to sleep in my bed. And he kicks a lot. So I've been sleeping on the couch. With a sore back of my own.

Supposedly, they are discussing alternate methods of surgery, that will get her back on her feet. I can't take this much longer.

My life is ass.

BTW, 78, good to see you, bro.

Sorry to hear, Mike, but good to see you back on the SC trail...

I've basically decided to put my foot down. She IS NOT going to live with us, if it comes down to the fact she can't get up and walk. Jennifer has 3 older brothers, all of whom make much more money than us and are more than capable of taking care of her. The new house we just bought is not compatible with someone w/back pain. 2 different sets of stairs that she can't get up. And I'm not going to be the one to build a bathroom in MY downstairs entertainment room (yes, the one that houses my plasma.) ef that.

Good to see ay Tark. This thread has really taken off.

And I see you and Dano are getting along fabulously.

Good to hear that. Personally, I sacrificed most of my efforts for a situation like that when there was at least 7 lazy siblings that wouldn't step up to the plate & became nothing more than a martyr. I wish I had those years back where I should have forced their hands & made them share in the responsibility. Instead, they're all where they wanted to be in their lives while I learned to live a spartan lifestyle 'for the good of the family'.

Stay strong...

I'm up at 5:15 every morning.

Are you gonna let an old man show you up like this?

themush 04-22-2008 03:27 PM

If that's showing me up you can have it. Normally sleep in until 8:00. I can't really do anything until the market opens anyway.
