MLB Thought of the Day -- September

Down the stretch they come.

Seems like Tampa Bay has been scoring some runs lately. Carlos Pena had seven RBI's last night in a 17-2 win. I believe that was the score. What a great season he is having with around 35 HR's and 105 RBI's.

I am going to go see the Yankees and the Royals at Kauffman Stadium this weekend. New York is playing some good baseball, while Kansas City has lost four of their last six and is still clinging to fourth place in the American League Central.

I know it's football season, but I can't wait to enjoy some fall baseball in the park.

Boy that Rick Ankiel is hitting the cover off the baseball. He will help push the Cardinals to the front of the NL Central.

John Smoltz pitched a heck of a game last night allowing one hit through eight innings I believe. He had 10 strikeouts.

The Twins blew a big lead in the 9th in Chicago last night. What a disappointing loss. I'm sure Gardy wasn't pleased.

Wow, Ted Lily is 15-7 this year? Can't complain about the first year results.

bama4256 09-11-2007 10:32 AM

And so many so called experts and fans were against acquiring Lilly. If u look at my earlier posts I was happy about it. Just had a feeling.

Guillen extended through 2012? Now? Why?

I'm surprised he was interested in coming back at all.

NY Yankees continue to play great ball. Boston ain't bad either. Again I say if the Yankees don't win their division they will be the wild card team and a good one at that.

Astros fall short of the comeback in the 9th against the Cubs tonight 3-2.

I really hope the Astros keep Cecil Cooper as their manager next year as i think he is doing a great job. He is being straight up with the players and not really flip flopping on anything. He tells the players in question his plan and doesnt leave them to wondering what their role is. With Phil Garner, he was tweaking the line up too much and some guys werent able to get consistent at bats.

NY has won nine games in a row. Boy if they can only sweep Boston this weekend they can win their division I think.

tobynosker 09-13-2007 11:03 AM

Actually, New York has won just seven in a row, after they dropped back-to-back games to Tampa Bay and Seattle earlier this month. But they are playing great baseball, and they are picking up some much-needed road victories late in the season.

Boston would have to slip-up dramatically and the Yankees would have to remain red-hot if New York were to overtake them in the American League East. I would also expect the Red Sox to play well in their final homestands with Oakland and Minnesota, considering those two clubs are out of the playoff hunt.

Brandon Phillips is ONE HR away from joing the 30/30 Club (3o HR, 30 SB)

I think only 4 or 5 middle infielders have achieved 30/30 in one season, one of which is Barry Larkin - Brandon Phillips' idol....

Phillips reminds me a lot of Larkin. His game and skill set is almost exactly the same as Larkin in his prime. Phillips may even have more power than Larkin...

Thoughts?
