Roland Garros 2007
Federer and Nadal are the top 2 seeds (duh)..

Henin and Sharapova are the top 2 seeds in women. Henin could face Serena in the quarters.

Tournament starts Sunday.

I'm excited to see if Federer can repeat his recent defeat of Nadal on clay.... ironically, Federer had also been cold in general over the last couple tourneys. Which trend plays out?

Roddick loses in the first round for the 4th time in six years:;_yl...v=ap&type=lgns

this is bad - both he and James Blake were the only two American men who had a decent chance to go far in the tournament....

Roddick's match was weird. He was in complete control at 6/3 4/2. Then all of a sudden 4 terrible games to lose the second set. Then he tried to up the level of his game again but Andreev started outplaying him. It was a 180 turnaround. I think this was the worst show by the American men in a long time.

With an abundance of rain and not much drama, the first 5 days have been fairly boring. Hopefully, it will get better from here on. It should, since some intriguing matchups are on course (Serena vs. Henin, possible Hewitt vs. Nadal etc..)

Thanks for the update, Mert. I admit I haven't gotten into it much. Maybe when things pickup, I will. It seems to me that Roddick is fragile mentally; he shouldn't have crumbled like that. I guess there's always the American women to cheer on...

Well, we've got the expected French Open Finals matchup:

Wow, didn't realize if Nadal wins on Sunday he will be the first to win the French three times in a row since Borg....

I think I will need to TIVO this potentially historic match...

Mertov 06-08-2007 10:26 PM

Good point! Either way it's a historic match. If Federer wins, he wins 4 Slams in a row (I wonder how many in history have done that), he keeps his Grand Slam hope alive and in the eyes of many, he instantly becomes the greatest tennis player of all times.

If Nadal wins, he most likely goes down in history already as the "guy who kept Federer from winning the Grand Slam", becomes the best clay court player since Borg, and sets the stage up for being the best clay court player to ever play the game for the next few years.

Come on people, have guts and give your prediction.

I will put myself on the line first:
I would like Federer to win but I pick Nadal in straight sets (yes, call me crazy)

Billy D 06-09-2007 12:58 PM

I'll predict Nadal. Gotta side with their personal histories on this surface

suedon1970 06-09-2007 06:33 PM

Nadal in a magnificent 5 set masterpiece!

Marc 06-10-2007 01:24 PM

Nadal just won. Federer kept it competitive, but we all know who owns the clay. It's just unfortunate Nadal isn't as dominant on the other surfaces which account for most of the tennis season...

Ricky Dimon 06-10-2007 10:30 PM

well Nadal did get to the finals of Wimbledon last year

this is a true rivalry, even if its outcome is always dependent on surface
