[superbowl xxxviii] PANTHERS vs PATRIOTS

Whose gonna win!? Go nuts....

Packers3045 01-19-2004 10:12 AM

If the pats can control the panthers' front four and Brady doesnt throw any picks, the pats will win

Pimpbot 01-19-2004 12:17 PM

I'd like to see the Panthers win it, but I think the Pats will be too strong. Patriots D is very good and Brady is playing great football right now.

My friend put a 12 to 1 bet on the Patriots to win the superbowl while we were in Vegas back in july. I bet he is kicking himself that he only put $20 dollars down. :D

I see this matchup being the same as the superbowl blowouts of the 80's and early 90's. The AFC were sending sacrificial lambs for slaughter during those Superbowls. (Broncos, Bills, Bengals, Patriots) Non of these teams made a good showing even though they impressively won their conference championships.

Enter the Panthers. They have had a successful year. They are a rags to riches story. They ruled their division. They unseated the previous world champs. Now they go to the superbowl.

Don't expect them to make much noise in the big game Belichick is on a mission. He wants everybody to say, "Parcells who?"

I don't particularly like the Pats, but I am happy for McGinest. He suffered a long time in NE. Now he must be considered a very valuable player. I see him someday becoming a great defensive coach. I can't wait for the BIG GAME.

I don't see anyone blowing out anyone else in this game. Carolina has a much better defense than Indy, and Indy's defense did a good enough job to win. So I'll say Patriots, 21-17.

Oh, don't be so modest guys. You say there will be no blowout, but do you honestly think Carolina has a chance? Whether the Pats win by one point or thirty points, they all feel like blowouts when you lose. The Pats are on a 14 game winning streak. They have not trailed in a very long time.

The Panthers may have a better D than the Colt, but the Colts have a better O than the Panthers. I say that because they were able to score on the Pats whom I believe have a steel blanket of a defense. None of that really matters as the Pats will find a way to win.

Last week you guys never even entertained the thought of the Colts winning. Now you guys change and say that this is going to be a close game. Close only counts in horseshoes and handgrenades. This is going to be a blowout because no matter what the score is, everybody knows that the Pats can and will win the superbowl.

Do u think many people will watch the game ??

This will be a good Super Bowl. NorthEast vs. SouthEast teams matchup. I still have confidence in the Pats. Belichick is on his way down to be one of the best coaches in NFL history.

Patriots = 24
Panthers = 17

MVP = Tom Brady

Patriots - 10
Panthers - 3

A very good superbowl? We could be looking at one of the lowest-rated Superbowls, if not the lowest-rated Superbowl ever. I'll vote for the latter.

Patriots - 14
Panthers - 6

Packers3045 01-20-2004 06:59 PM

could this be the lowest scoring superbowl ever?

I think there's a very real chance of this being a defensive struggle. I think that the Pats have a distinct advantage from having been here before. While Fox was the Giants DC when the Giants went to the SB a couple years ago, how he handles this will count for a lot.

Fox actually surprised me last week. I thought his team would be tight, overwhelmed by the Philly fans, and the Panthers would buckle. Not so. Kudos to Fox.

As for scoring... I think there's cause to ask the question, but Vegas obviously doesn't see it being record breaking. And, it would indeed be tough to match the meager 21 points scored in SBVII. As a complete aside, the last time a team entered the SB on such a winning streak as that the Pats are sporting, was 1972, Super Bowl VII.

Will this game be boring? I suppose, to the casual fan, there's such a thing in the NFL. As long as the competitors are hitting (they're highly likely to here), and neither defense doesn't fold up for some wierd reason (unlikely), there's reason to think it could be a slugfest.

BTW, johnny... it's not modesty as much as it is having an understanding of how the game gets played week-in/week-out. The Pats have played just better enough than their opponents in the last 14 games to win... Chances are, they'll do so again... but one never knows with these things.

I was thinking the same thing. Neither team in my estimation has an overwhelming offense, and both have good defenses.

This could be one of those 10-7 type games.

Then again, it will be good weather, so maybe they will score more points...

I chose the Patriots.

I like the Carolina Panthers in a low scoring and ugly game. The Panthers this year remind me of the New England Patriots of a few years ago.
