1) Rafael Palmeiro reached 100 RBI for the 8th time and 7th consecutive year. Palmeiro became just the 4th player with at least 7 consecutive 35+ HR, 100+ RBI seasons.

Palmeiro continues to add to a resume that will earn him a spot in Baseball Immortals when his career ends. Palmeiro's hitting .540 SLG, .379 OBA, .919 OPS, 31 RCAA, .641 OWP, 8.16 RC/G, 113 RC in 134 game this season. He's passed 100 RC for the 8th time in his career, is having his 9th year with a .900+ OPS and his 10th year with a .500+ SLG.

With 487 career RCAA, Palmeiro's closing in on the 500 club. Every player who's reached that mark is either in Baseball Immortals or will be when their careers end.

2) Pirates assistant GM John Sirigano, who was a top aide to former GM Cam Bonifay, left his position. The team won't say whether he was fired or he resigned.

3) BlueJays P Kelvim Escobar will have tests on Tuesday to see if he has an aneurysm in his pitching arm. Escobar had to leave Friday's game, due to tightness in his forearm, which caused numbness in his fingers and thumb. It's the 3rd time he's had mysterious symptoms this season.

The team's doctor says the chances of Escobar having an aneurysm is remote, but "At this point we really don't know. We just know that some games he's losing some strength in his hand, particularly his thumb. We're going to try and find out the reason why.

"He's had nerve conduction studies that have been normal to date."

4) The Mariners activated OF Jay Buhner and 3B Ed Sprague from the DL.

5) The Indians called up Ps Ryan Drese, Tim Drew and Scott Radinsky, INF John McDonald, OFs Dave Roberts and Karim Garcia and C Tim Laker. To make room on the 40 man roster, Jaret Wright was called up and immediately placed on the 60 day DL (so he stays on the 40 man roster, but doesn't count as one of the 40), designated INF Dave Hollins for assignment and released minor league P Jamie Brown.

6) Devil Rays LF Greg Vaughn had to leave yesterday's game, with a mild left hamstring strain, and is expected to be miss 3-4 days.

7) The Dodgers called up P Dennis Springer, INF Chris Donnels and OF McKay Christensen and activated P Jesse Orosco from the DL.

8) The Cardinals activated P Mike James from the DL.

9) The Diamondbacks activated 1B Erubiel Durazo from the DL and called up Ps Erik Sabel and Eric Knott, C Chad Moeller and OFs Ryan Christenson and Midre Cummings.

10) The Devil Rays called up P Juan Guzman, who was in AAA on an injury rehab assignment, and immediately placed him back on the 15 day DL. They also called up P Dewon Brazelton and activated P Jeff Wallace from the DL.

GM Chuck LaMar's already said Guzman, who's in the final year of a 2 year, $12.5 million contract, will not return next year. Guzman pitched just 1 game last year and has spent the entire 2001 season on the DL.

Brazelton was the 3rd pick in the first round of this year's draft. The Devil Rays say he's just there to get absorb the major league atmosphere and won't be used.
