Well, think about it. The Padres have one of the lowest payrolls in the leauge. They don't have many high salary players either. Phil Nevin, Ryan Klesko and Trevor Hoffman are pretty much the only high salary players the Pads have. So there isn't much to worry about. They signed Nevin to an extension, Hoffman is loyal and will finish his career there and if they start winning, Klesko's gonna wanna stay. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I read a column from Peter Gammons that said next year, their going to have five starters up from the minors, that's a whole rotation!! I would imagine only two or three would start and the rest would go to the bullpen but still, that's some insurance. San Diego Padres, 2003 NL West Champions.
