I've always considered the Camaro, Firebird, and Challenger to be pony cars...especially the Challenger. When I hear the word "muscle car" a Chevelle or a Charger pop into my head.

Besides, I don't wanna let anyone see me cry. 
But I agree with the pony cars vs the heavier muscle cars analogy. Of course I'm biased, I had a big block Chevelle SS. 
Just a taste down memory lane tho...
Remember stopping to fill up at the gas station in Lake County, Ill that had the only pump that actually sold racing fuel for trips up to Great Lakes Dragaway in Wisconsin & US 30 Drag Strip in Indiana.
