Default no more Madden on Monday

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slu...v=ap&type=lgns

NEW YORK (AP) -- John Madden will join NBC as a game analyst when the network begins televising its newly acquired Sunday night football package in 2006.

The network scheduled an afternoon teleconference with Madden to make the announcement.

``John Madden is the best analyst in the history of the National Football League and, in my opinion, the best analyst of any kind in sports television history,'' said Dick Ebersol, chairman of NBC Universal Sports & Olympics. ``John is much more than a football legend, he's an American icon.''

Madden has spent the past three seasons teamed with Al Michaels on ABC's now-defunct ``Monday Night Football.''

``I have been doing this a long time and when I went to ABC to do 'Monday Night Football,' I thought I would finish my career there,'' Madden said. ``But when the NFL did this new television deal, I looked at 'NBC's Sunday Night Football' package, and I thought this really fits me well.''

w/ ESPN taking over Monday Night Football i really hope they overhaul their horriable football annoucers- Joe Theisman is a loud mouth crybaby who flip-flops opinions after every down. and that fat bald guy w/ the mustach is downright clueless.

most people seem like either love or hate Madden. i find him funny and i like his rambling football talk.

Madden's rambling sounds intelligent when compared to the morons employed by ESPN. Theisman and Maguire are both idiots who are either screaming or flip-flopping opinions every second. Mike Patrick isn't bad but even he could be improved upon.

So is Al Michaels not going to do ESPN monday night football?. I assumed that as ABC and ESPN were all one happy family, that it would just be a simple swap.

I never thought i'd say this but.... Bring back Fouts and Miller! Teamed with Michaels, they were better than Madden or the ESPN crew. I had to keep a dictionary near the tv to keep up with Miller's vocabulary, but it was a much more enjoyable experience.

Anyway, it's surprising to me that Madden and Michaels didn't make a move together, whereever they end up. With Michaels' other ABC commitments, i doubt he'll be able to make the move to NBC.

I personally always liked the Dierdorf(sp), Gifford and Michaels team.

Not likely I have always got the impression that Micheals would consider working for ESPN as 'slumming' and somewhat beneath a broadcaster of his stature. He rarely appears on ESPN and when he does it is just a few minute guest appearance. Madden was on ESPN the past couple of years more than Micheals was. Micheals does zero work for ESPN's NBA coverage. The only NBA games he covers are the ones airing on ABC. I doubt Micheals makes the jump to NBC. He has been on ABC for over 30 years and I imagine he wants to stay there.

Hey everyone, this is my first post so I thought I would introduce myself.

Madden is overrated, his football game has made him who he is today. I find myself wondering when he will shut up most of the time.

not the best first post but had to start some where.

Welcome, TwinShadows!

I gotta say though, you must be younger than 20 if you think his video game "made him who he is today."

No, I am an old man.

I know about Madden, I should reword my comment.

I think he is around still because of his fame from the game. This is IMO only, I have been wrong from time to time.

Thanks for the welcome guys.

winning a Super Bowl and winning a ton of Sports Emmys might have helped him get the video game in the first place.
