Talking Professional Football Rankings Week 2(Schedule 3)

Rankings reflect all games played from Sept. 9th through Sept. 24th

Number 1--DENVER BRONCOS--(2-0)-Broncos defeated Arizona 38-17 in Arizona. QB Brian Griese completed 22-31 for 242 yards and three TD's. At one point he threw 17 straight completions. Receiver Rod Smith was brillant catching 14 passes for 162 yards and two TD's. Running back Terrell Davis out again with injuries. What's new? Next game Sept. 30th against Baltimore at Denver.

*Number 2--NEW ORLEANS SAINTS--(1-0)-Saints had a bye. Saints next game is Sept. 30th against New York Giants in New York.

*Number 3--INDIANAPOLIS COLTS--(2-0)-Colts crushed Buffalo at home 42-26. QB Peyton Manning threw for 421 yards. He completed 23 of 29 passes and had two INT's. He threw four TD's. Receiver Marvin Harrison caught seven passes for 146 yards and three TD's. RB Edgerrin James rushed for 111 yards on 23 carries and rushed for one TD. Next game Sept. 30th against New England in New England.

*Number 4--MIAMI DOLPHINS--(2-0)-Dolphins stole victory from Oakland in last few seconds Sunday, when QB Jay Fiedler dived into the end zone for TD. Final score 18-15. Dolphins are 28-4 in home openers since 1970. They haven't lost at home in September since 1993. Next game Sept. 30th against St. Louis in St. Louis

*Number 5--GREEN BAY PACKERS--(2-0)-Packers crushed Washington 37-0 on MNF. Game time temperature was 46 degrees. QB Brett Favre looked like the Farve of old by completing 20 of 31 passes for 236 yards and three TD's. He threw one INT. Defense sacked QB Jeff George five times. RB Ahman Green ran for 116 yards on 25 carries. Next game Sept. 30th against Carolina at Carolina.

*Number 6--ST. LOUIS RAMS--(2-0)-Rams defeated San Francisco in SF 30-26. QB Kurt Warner was 24-35 for 321 yards and three TD's. Marshall Faulk was his usual great self. He rushed for 105 yards on 18 carries. He caught eight passes for 79 yards. WR Issac Bruce caught eight passes for 144 yards and one TD. Next game Sept. 30th against Miami at home.

*Number 7--JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS--(2-0)-Jaguars beat Tennessee 13-6 at home. RB Fred Taylor tears muscle near groin. Will be out probably three weeks or more. QB Mark Brunell completed 17-27 for 235 yards. Jag's RB Stacey Mack scampered for a 22 yard TD. Next game Sept. 30th against Cleveland at home.

*Number 8--CINCINNATI BENGALS--(2-0)-Who in the world would believe this? The Bengals shocked the football world by beating the Baltimore Ravens 21-10 at home. Bengals safety Chris Carter had nine tackles. QB Jon Kitna completed 19 of 30 for 154 yards. Next game Sept. 30th against San Diego at San Diego.

*Number 9--TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS--(1-0)-Tampa enjoyed a bye. Next game Sept. 30th against Minnesota at Minnesota.

*Number 10--SAN DIEGO CHARGERS--(2-0)--Another surprise team. Chargers beat Dallas 32-21 in Dallas. Love to see underdogs do well. QB Doug Flutie threw for 353 yards and two TD's. He completed 23 of 38 passes. Rookie running back LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 90 yards on 27 carries. Offense had 475 total net yards. Next game Sept 30th against Cincinnati at home.

*Number 11--OAKLAND RAIDERS--(1-1)-Raiders lost tough one to Miami 18-15. QB Rich Gannon passed for only 125 yards. He completed 14 of 25 passes. RB Charlie Garner caught six passes for 75 yards. Safety Anthony Dorsett returned interception 26 yards for a TD in fourth quarter. Next game Sept. 30th against Seattle at home.

*Number 12--PHILADELPHIA EAGLES--(1-1)-Eagles manhandled Seattle 27-3 in Seattle. QB Donavan McNabb completed 24-37 for 283 yards and two TD's. He rushed for one TD. Receiver James Thrash caught ten passes for 165 yards and two TD's. Next game Sept. 30th against Dallas at home.

*Number 13--NEW YORK GIANTS--(1-1)-Giants beat Kansas City in KC 13-3. RB Ron Dayne scored from seven yard out in second quarter. QB Kerry Collins completed 20-24 for 208 yards. He threw three interceptions. Next game Sept. 30th against New Orleans at home.

*Number 14--ATLANTA FALCONS--(1-1)-Falcons beat Carolina 24-16 at home. RB Jamal Anderson rushed for 98 yards on 25 carries. He scored TD on 94 yard pass play from QB Chris Chandler in the third quarter. Rookie QB Michael Vick completed 2-2 for 27 yards and scored on two yard run. Next game Sept. 30th against Arizona at Arizona.

*Number 15--CAROLINA PANTHERS--(1-1)-Rookie QB Chris Weinke looked good in loss to Falcons. He was 27-41 for 276 yards. He scored on five yard run in second quarter. Panthers were penalized seven times for 54 yards. Next game Sept. 30th against Green Bay at home.

*Number 16--SAN FRANCISCO 49ers--(1-1)-49ers lost close one to Rams 30-26 at home. QB Jeff Garcia scored on 10 yard run in second quarter. WR Terrell Owens caught five passes for 51 yards. RB Garrison Hearst suffered concussion in the game. Next game Oct. 1st on MNF against New York Jets at New York.

*Number 17--CHICAGO BEARS--(1-1)-Bears clawed Vikings in 17-10 win at home. QB Shane Matthews was ineffective and relaced by Jim Miller. Miller completed 18-29 for 204 yards. He had one interceptions. WR Marty Booker caught nine passes for 95 yards and one TD and Marcus Robinson caught seven passes for 99 yards. Bears defense had three sacks. Open date Sept. 30th. Next game Oct. 7th against Atlanta at Atlanta.

*Number 18--CLEVELAND BROWNS--(1-1)--Browns tamed Lions 24-14 in Cleveland. QB Tim Couch completed 12-20 for 138 yards and two TD's. He had two interceptions. RB James Jackson rushed for 124 yards on 31 carries. Rookie defensive back Anthony Henry of South Florida interecepted three passes. Next game Sept. 30th against Jacksonville at Jacksonville.

*Number 19--BALTIMORE RAVENS--(1-1)-Ravens are not hitting on all cylinders. They lost to Bengals 21-10. QB Elvis Grbac set franchise record for completions and attempts by completing 33-63 for 326 yards and one TD. He threw three INT's. Linebacker Ray Lewis was in on eight tackles. Next game Sept. 30th against Denver at Denver.

*Number 20--NEW YORK JETS--(1-1)-Jets barely beat hapless Patriots 10-3 in New England. Running back Curtis Martin rushed for 106 yards on 24 carries and one TD. Next game Oct. 1st against San Francisco on MNF at home.

*Number 21--SEATTLE SEAHAWKS--(1-1)-Seahawks wings were clipped by Eagles in 27-3 loss. QB Matt Hasselbeck had rough game by completing only 9-24 for 62 yards. He was sacked seven times. Offense could only muster nine first downs. Next game Sept. 30th against Oakland at Oakland.

*Number 22--NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS--(0-2)-Patriots might have lost QB Drew Bledsoe for the season in 10-3 loss to New York Jets. Bledsoe has some internal injuries and maybe a punctured lung. Not good. Tom Brady will takeover at QB. Next game Sept. 30th against Indianapolis at home.

*Number 23--TENNESSEE TITANS--(0-2)-Titans are beaten by Jacksonville 13-6. QB Steve McNair didn't play because of injury. QB Neil O'Donnell completed 21-36 for 215 yards. He was sacked four times. RB Eddie George ran for 79 yards on 20 carries. Has open date Sept. 30th. Next game is Oct. 7th against Baltimore at Baltimore.

*Number 24--MINNESOTA VIKINGS--(0-2)-Vikings offense is anemic right now. Their offense looked so good in preseason. WR Randy Moss couldn't get open for a big gain or TD in their loss to the Bears 17-10. Moss caught five passes for 81 yards. Chris Carter caught one pass for 13 yards. Safety Robert Griffith broke his right leg on the opening kickoff against Chicago. Bad break! No pun intended. Next game Sept. 30th against Tampa Bay at home.

*Number 25--KANSAS CITY CHIEFS--(0-2)-Chiefs lost to Giants at home 13-3. Chiefs could only achieve 11 first downs the entire game. QB Trent Green completed 17-34 for 184 yards. Head coach Dick Vermeil will get this offense moving soon. Next game Sept. 30th against Washington at Washington.

*Number 26--DALLAS COWBOYS--(0-2)-Cowboys lost at home to San Diego 32-21. RB Emmitt Smith moved into second place on the all-time rushing list by gaining 85 yards on 17 carries. Dallas possessed the ball for only 22.01 minutes of the game. WR Raghib Ismail scored TD on 80 yard pass play in second quarter. QB Anthony Wright received injuries in game and is doubtful for next week. Next game Sept. 30th against Philadelphia at Philadelphia.

*Number 27--PITTSBURGH STEELERS--(0-1)-Steelers had a bye. Next game Sept. 30th against Buffalo at Buffalo.

*Number 28--BUFFALO BILLS--(0-2)-Bills lost to Indianapolis 42-26 in Indianapolis. QB Rob Johnson completed 24-37 for 257 yards and one TD. Rookie defensive back Nate Clements of Ohio State intercepted pass in first quarter off Manning and returned it 48 yards for a TD. Next game Sept.30 against Pittsburgh at home.

*Number 29--ARIZONA CARDINALS--(0-1)-Cardinals lost home opener to Denver on Sunday night football 38-17. QB Jake "the snake" Plummer completed 16-28 for 242 yards and one TD. He threw one INT. Next game Sept. 30th against Atlanta at home.

*Number 30--WASHINGTON REDSKINS--(0-2)-Redskins lost to Green Bay on MNF 37-0. QB Jeff George is still ineffective. He completed 15-24 for 102 yards and had one INT. Somebody better go buy a QB soon. Maybe a defense too. Coach Schottenheimer must be embarrassed by such a loss. He will make some changes. Next game Sept. 30th against Kansas City at home.

*Number 31--DETROIT LIONS--(0-2)-QB Ty Detmer threw seven interceptions in 24-14 loss to Cleveland. It's bad enough just losing to Cleveland, but seven interceptions. Lions committed 15 penalties for 115 yards. Coach Mornhingweg declared Detmer is still the starting QB. It's his head not mine. Open date on Sept. 30th. Thank God. Next game Oct. 8th on MNF against St. Louis at home.

Who would have thought we would see the day the Bengals AND the Browns were ranked by someone higher than the Titans, Super Bowl favorites? Not me!
