Talking Professional Football Rankings Week 3(Schedule 4)

Rankings reflect all games played from Sept. 9th through Oct. 1st

*Number 1--ST. LOUIS RAMS--(3-0)-Rams crushed Miami at home 42-10. QB Kurt Warner had a big game as usual. He completed 24 of 31 passes for 328 yards and four TD's. WR Torry Holt caught four passes for 111 yards and one TD. RB Marshall Faulk caught six passes for 72 yards and two TD's. Rams had 441 total net yards. Next game Oct. 8th against Detroit at Detroit on MNF.


Number 2--GREEN BAY PACKERS--(3-0)-Packers defeated Carolina 28-7 at Carolina. QB Brett Favre completed 25-39 passes for 308 yards and three TD's. He threw two INT's. RB Ahman Green caught seven passes for 75 yards. Defense held Panthers to 169 total net yards. DE Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila sackeds QB Chris Weinke twice. Next game Oct. 7th against Tampa Bay at Tampa.

*Number 3--OAKLAND RAIDERS--(2-1)-Raiders beat Seattle at home 38-14. WR Jerry Rice caught pass for 33 yards for a TD in the first quarter and one for 14 yards in the second. Safety Marquez Pope had eight solo tackles and two assists. DB Charles Woodson had two sacks. Next game Oct. 7th against Dallas at Oakland.

*Number 4--SAN DIEGO CHARGERS--(3-0)-The Chargers are for real, but they won't be in the top ten for long. QB Doug Flutie must be eating those Flutie flakes. They beat Cincinnati 28-14 at home. QB Doug Flutie was 12-19 for 133 yards and one TD. Rookie RB LaDainian Tomlinson rushed for 107 yards on 21 carries and three TD's. Safety Rodney Harrison led Charger defense with nine solo tackles. CB Ryan McNeil had two INT's. Next game Oct. 7th against Cleveland at Cleveland.

*Number 5--PHILADELPHIA EAGLES--(2-1)-Eagles crushed Dallas at home in the rain, 40-18. RB Correll Buckhalter rushed for 99 yards on 20 carries and one TD. TE Chad Lewis caught four passes for 43 yards and two TD's. Eagles defense recovered four fumbles. Next game Oct. 7th against Arizona at Philadelphia.

*Number 6--BALTIMORE RAVENS--(2-1)-Defense shined in 20-13 win over Denver in Denver. QB Elvis Grbac completed 17-30 for 221 yards and two TD's. He threw one INT. LB Ray Lewis had eight solo tackles and two assists. He also had one sack. Next game Oct. 7th against Tennessee at Baltimore.

*Number 7--NEW YORK GIANTS--(2-1)-Giants won an emotional game against New Orleans at home 20-13. RB Ron Dayne rushed for 111 yards on 19 carries and one TD. His longest run from scrimmage was 55 yards. DE Michael Strahan had three sacks. Next game Oct. 7th against Washington at New York.

*Number 8--NEW ORLEANS SAINTS--(2-1)-Saints lost tough one to Giants in the Meadowlands 20-13. QB Aaron Brooks completed 28-54 for 291 yards and one TD. He threw one INT. WR Willie Jackson caught eight passes for 105 yards and one TD. Saints defense had five sacks on QB Kerry Collins. Next game Oct. 7th against Minnesota at New Orleans.

*Number 9--SAN FRANCISCO 49ers--(2-1)-49ers beat New York Jets on MNF 19-17. RB Garrison Hearst rushed for 95 yards on 20 carries. Good to see him performing well again. LB Derek Smith had 10 solo tackles and one assist. Next game Oct. 7th against Carolina at San Francisco.

*Number 10--ATLANTA FALCONS--(2-1)-Falcons lost RB Jamal Anderson to a torn knee. Memories of 1998 again. Falcons beat Arizona 34-14 at Arizona. QB Chris Chandler completed 20-28 for 286 yards and three TD's. RB Maurice Smith caught two passes for 108 yards and one TD. The TD was a 79 yard pass completion. Defense intercepted three passes off Jake Plummer. Next game Oct. 7th against Chicago at Atlanta.

*Number 11--DENVER BRONCOS--(2-1)-Broncos lost close one at home, 20-13 against Baltimore. Broncos returned five kickoffs for 165 yards. QB Brian Griese completed 17-33 for 191 yards and one TD. He threw two INT's. He was sacked five times. Next game Oct. 7th against Kansas City at Denver.

*Number 12--CLEVELAND BROWNS--(2-1)-Browns defeated Jacksonville at Jacksonville 23-14. FGK Phil Dawson kicked three field goals, his longest was 35 yards. QB Tim Couch was 24-34 for 249 yards. WR Kevin Johnson caught six passes for 80 yards. Ex-Viking LB Dwayne Rudd had seven solo tackles. Next game Oct. 7th against San Diego at Cleveland.

*Number 13--INDIANAPOLIS COLTS--(2-1)--Colts embarrassed by New England in New England 44-13. QB Peyton Manning threw three INT's and two were returned for TD's. They had seven penalties for 65 yards. Punter Hunter Smith had six punts, averaging 40.5 yards per punt. His longest kick was 61 yards. You know a team had a bad week when you list the punter's accomplishments. Indianapolis enjoys a bye Oct. 7th. Next game Oct. 14th against Oakland at Indianapolis.

*Number 14--MIAMI DOLPHINS--(2-1)-Dolphins were sunk by the offensive firepower of St. Louis 42-10. QB Jay Fiedler was intercepted twice and sacked twice. Dolphins Safety Brian Walker had six solo tackles and three assists. Next game Oct. 7th against New England at Miami.

*Number 15--JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS--(2-1)-Jaguars were beaten by upstart Cleveland team 23-14 at home. QB Jonathan Quinn subbed for the injured Mark Brunell and completed 15-30 for 136 yards and one TD. He threw one INT. WR Jimmie Smith caught nine passes for 88 yards. LB Kevin Hardy had 10 tackles and two assists. Next game Oct. 7th against Seattle at Seattle.

*Number 16--CINCINNATI BENGALS--(2-1)-Bengals beaten by a good San Diego team 28-14 in San Diego. QB Jon Kitna was 18-32 for 135 yards and two TD's. He had three INT's. Next game Oct. 7th against Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh.

*Number 17--CHICAGO BEARS--(1-1)-The Bears enjoyed a bye this past weekend. QB Jim Miller will lead the team instead of Shane Matthews. Next game Oct. 7th against Atlanta at Atlanta.

*Number 18--TENNESSEE TITANS--(0-2)-Titans enjoyed a bye this past weekend. They sure needed it after their 0-2 start. They face tough test this coming weekend against Baltimore. Hope QB Steve McNair is ready to go. Next game Oct. 7th against Baltimore at Baltimore.

*Number 19--MINNESOTA VIKINGS--(1-2)-Vikings defeated Tampa Bay 20-16 at home. QB Duante Culpepper completed 30-44 for 322 yards and one TD. He had two INT's. RB Jim Kleinsasser had eight catches for 51 yards. Who is he? WR Randy Moss caught five passes for 86 yards. Next game Oct. 7th against New Orleans at New Orleans.

*Number 20--TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS--(1-1)-Bucs beaten by the Vikings 20-16. RB Warrick Dunn hurt ankle in game and may be out three to four weeks. WR Keyshawn Johnson caught seven passes for 96 yards. LB Derrick Brooks had 16 solo tackles and four assists. He's a hoss. Next game Oct. 7th against Green Bay at Tampa.

*Number 21--NEW YORK JETS--(1-2)-Jets lost to San Francisco on MNF 19-17. RB Curtis Martin ran for 66 yards on 19 carries and he had two TD's. LB James Farrior had eight solo tackles and two assists. Next game Oct. 7th against Buffalo at Buffalo.

*Number 22--PITTSBURGH STEELERS--(1-1)-Steelers defeated Buffalo 20-3 at Buffalo. FB Jerome Bettis rushed for 114 yards on 22 carries. CB Dewayne Washington returned fumble for a 63 yard TD. Next game Oct. 7th against Cincinnati at Pittsburgh.

*Number 23--KANSAS CITY CHIEFS--(1-2)-Chiefs crushed Washington in Washington 45-13. QB Trent Green completed 21-26 for 307 yards and three TD's. RB Priest Holmes came to life by rushing for 147 yards on 23 carries and two TD's. TE Tony Gonzalez caught five passes for 88 yards and one TD. Next game Oct. 7th against Denver at Denver.

*Number 24--CAROLINA PANTHERS--(1-2)-Panthers lost to Green Bay 28-7 at home. Rookie QB Chris Weinke completed 18-30 for 160 yards and one TD. He threw one INT. Panthers fumbled four times and lost two. Next game Oct. 7th against San Francisco at SF.

*Number 25--NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS--(1-2)-Patriots surprised Indianapolis with 44-13 win. Back-up QB Tom Brady completed 13-23 for 168 yards. RB Antowain Smith rushed for 94 yards on 22 carries and he scored two TD's. FGK Adam Vinatieri kicked three FG's. He's one of the best in the NFL. Next game Oct. 7th against Miami at Miami.

*Number 26--SEATTLE SEAHAWKS--(1-2)-Seattle lost to Oakland 38-14 at Oakland. QB Matt Hasselbeck was sacked six times by the Raiders defense. Running back Ricky Watters injured his shoulder and will be out for a few weeks. Not good for Seattle. Next game Oct. 7th against Jacksonville at Seattle.

*Number 27--ARIZONA CARDINALS--(0-2)-Cardinals were beaten by Atlanta at home 34-14. The attendance was not good. 28,878 was the announced paid crowd in a 73,000 seat stadium. Next game Oct. 7th if anyone cares is against Philadelphia at Philadelphia.

*Number 28--BUFFALO BILLS--(0-3)-Bills lost to Pittsburgh 20-3. QB Rob Johnson sacked four times. Only 172 net yards ion offense. This team was predicted to do well this year, even with a new head coach. Next game Oct. 7th against N.Y. Jets at Buffalo.

*Number 29--DETROIT LIONS--(0-2)-Lions enjoyed a bye. I bet Head coach Morhinweg put them through hell in practice. Much good it will do. Next game Oct. 7th against St. Louis at Detroit on MNF.

*Number 30--DALLAS COWBOYS--(0-3)-Cowboys are no longer America's team or Texas' team for that matter. Cowboys are shot down by Philadelphia team 40-18. QB Anthony Wright completed 7-23 for 33 yards. That was pitiful. He was sacked twice. Back-up QB Clint Stoerner threw for two TD's in the fourth quarter. RB Troy Hambrick rushed for 107 yards on 10 carries. One was for a 80 yard gain. Next game Oct. 7th against Oakland at Oakland.

*Number 31--WASHINGTON REDSKINS--(0-3)-Head Coach Marty Schottenheimer in his 16 years of coaching has never started a season 0-3. Well, he has now. Schottenheimer booed at his home debut, when his picture is flashed on replay screen during halftime. 76,573 was the paid attendance. It could get worse, before it gets better. QB Tony Banks completed 11-27 for 116 yards and one TD. Also one INT. Next game Oct. 7th against N.Y. Giants at New York.
