Default Notre Dame to play in Orlando...

Notre Dame games planned for Orlando in 2011, 2014

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) Notre Dame will play football games at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando, Fla., in 2011 and 2014.
No opponent has been announced for the games. Notre Dame previously announced it planned to schedule a football game each season at neutral sites starting in 2009. It is an attempt to return the school to its independent roots.

Athletic director Kevin White has said the goal is to travel to different parts of the country and ensure that the school remains a nationwide program.

Not this rubbish again. They've already played in Ireland and Orlando (vs. Navy in 2000). What does this have to do with "remaining a nationwide program"....??

Or "returning" to their independent roots for that matter.

Sick of this crap. And chances are they'll be taking away home games from their opponent and not from themselves.

I suspect it will be Navy who suffers the blow. Gotta be one of their 6 mainstay rivals (USC, Stanford, Navy, MSU, Michigan, Purdue, BC). No one else is gonna go for this stuff who just has 'em for a home and home.

It's also no coincidence that these games will be played in 2 of the most fertile recruiting grounds in the nation.

I would assume they are doing this to make it easier for potential recruits to come see them play.

Well...ND has announced a game vs. Washington State to be played in San Antonio...

http://und.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/...072007aab.html

The articles mentions letting alumni go to the game and recruiting as reasons for the neutral site.

The recruiting angle is pretty bogus if you ask me. They only have 4 Florida guys and 3 from Texas on their roster right now. Traditionally, they've been light on southern talent. Remember...you have to have a brain to play at ND. They select the recruits...not the other way around...no matter where they come from.
