A while ago people here were talking about getting the old chat room back up on here.

I am sure that everyone forgot about it, but I remembered. I am taking some of those memory pills, which probably helped me remember about chat. I forgot to take today's dose though.

Anyways... are we ever going to get a chat room going? If we could get this set up, I would help set a day and push people to be there. I think it would a fun way for people here to get to know each other better.

I'm down with that...we could schedule them around games and events of particular interest (like the Super Bowl, for example).

I never used the chat, but bringing it back is fine with me.

One option would be for us to use old-school IRC (meaning you'd need to download a client) and then we could make our own room and meet up for events. The positives are it's relatively easy once you have the software (mIRC for Windows) and its free. The downside is it's a little more work than just visiting a webpage and we wouldn't be in control of the chat channel, really, but that would be fine since it'd be an informal thing.

But how it'd work is we basically pick any IRC network like EFNet or something (they're loaded in the software to begin with) and then make a room like #sportscentral (I would do this and it basically means I just join the #sportscentral room, which creates it since it didn't already exist). As long as it wasn't in use, it'd be empty and we could use it. We could look into making a permanent room and have control over it if it is successful.

I'm off on vacation next week, and the week following is hectic, so maybe come July. I like this because it requires little work for me (I'm lazy and/or busy ), but anyone have the over/under on how much of this buckeye understood?

I think buckeye understood "EFNet" as an IRC network...

Either that or vacation until July.

You got it Doug...vacation til July...LOL.

One of you guys could talk to me like I'm 2 and perhaps I could do it myself if we go with this "method."

Either that or I'll just print out Marc's post and show it to my niece (19 years old) and tell her "make it happen." And yes, she taught me how to print. Perhaps there is hope for me....or not.

 you guys crack me up ( buck & marc )

Anyway I'd like to vote yes on this proposition as well, but isn't there someway that the chat could be more integrated into the site? and preferably you would have to be a registered member of SC in order to access it... I'm sure I'm not the only one who enjoys the high level of quality in our regular members that has been carefully cultivated over the years.... Ideally I think we'd all like to see that maintained in a chat room, with all the rules of SC being adhered to, at least for the most part... anyone else agree with me on that?

Odds are that people will forget about this, like they already did, and this will never happen.

Maybe, but it's all up to Marc, and he's on vacation right now... all we have to do is remind him when he gets back and he'll get the ball rolling again

I am on vacation now. On an island off South Carolina and and I can practically see the ocean from where I'm sitting. Free hotel wi-fi. Anyway, I will get something going next week or so.
