song & dance:

Bengals' Ochocinco plans to use Twitter during games

Bengals WR Chad Ochocinco has big plans for Twitter: "I like it. I like it because it gives me the opportunity to reach out to thousands of people at one time. It gives me a chance to get my story across when something goes wrong ... It's big for me and I'm taking it a step further. I have my own application coming out where people will be able to interact and follow me. You know more than through just the keyboard and reading my messages - you'll actually be able to follow me and when the season starts, it's going to get even worse. I'm going to really make it fun. I'm using Twitter during games, during halftime, after the games. I'm going to be taking it to the next level." -

I swear, when Johnson's career is over, he'll probably self combust from the lack of mics in his face...

You know sometimes I wonder if my wife and I are the only ones not on Twitter. I don't understand what the fascination is.

But doesn't this bother you on some level? I mean the guy is back at the same nonsense for the media where he's admitting he'll be spending time away from the only day he's actually 'at work' to 'talk' to his fans.

I personally don't twitter, but most of my friends do. I guess they enjoy the "up-to-the-minute" updates...

As for Ocho, he's ridiculous, but also very entertaining. I personally enjoyed the "tweat" he had were he compared the death of Michael Jackson to 9/11.

I Tweet. And it's highly addicting. I have a Twitter client open in my second monitor all day. The key is finding a good batch of people to follow. I follow everyone from ESPN to Bill Simmons, Jeremy Piven, Shaq, and lots of tech figures I know. It's a live stream of TARGETED, useful info to me personally. Lots of links, pics, etc. that are worthwhile. When Michael Jackson died, I heard about it on Twitter from TMZ before he was pronounced dead. It's pretty awesome...

If I were to divulge everything I did during the course of a day I would be arrested immediately.

It's not so much about what you had for breakfast, though there's an element of that. It's more just keeping up with people who interest you and finding cool links and insights from them. It's the same pattern blogging went through. Everyone said why would I want to read about someone's dog and what he had for breakfast, but now blogs are obviously very useful and a powerful medium.

Well until they outlaw sleeping I won't have that problem.

But then, I wake up and find out that Brett Favre isn't coming back after all, and that the UFC is on the brink of signing Fedor Emelianenko.

I'm glad I'm not a Minnesota fan this week.

I'm one of those twitter users who doesn't update very often--don't even login to follow people very often--but the idea of Ochocinco tweeting from the sidelines is something that I find pretty fun and cool.
If someone who was likely to actually provide in-game insight, I'd definitely be logged into twitter on Sundays. I'm not sure #85 is the guy.

I just watched Ochocinco break down game tape of Champ Bailey for 5 minutes in the livestream channel he has going on. I came away convinced that any tweets he gives from the sideline will be more valuable than Tony Siragusa sideline reporting...or most other sideline reporters.

It'll probably be a lot of "they can't guard me dog!", but I'd imagine he'd slip a couple good tweets in there about what he is doing to get open.

But, this begs the question though, as a coach, or even teammate, would you rather Ochocinco be concentrating on getting ready for the next offensive series or sitting over there figuring out what to say next on Twitter? How much of a distraction is it going to be?
