Doug Flutie, Larry Coker to call games on ESPN networks

By The Associated Press

Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie and former Miami coach Larry Coker will serve as analysts for college football games on ESPN's networks this season.

Flutie will join Craig James and Chris Fowler in the booth for ESPN's Thursday night matchups.

Flutie called several games last season - including Boston College-Miami on the anniversary of his 1984 Hail Mary pass to beat the Hurricanes - and worked as an ABC studio analyst.

Coker, who was fired last season, will make his television debut on ESPNU games.

Flutie is horrible. I can't imagine watching a game with him. Can't stand Craig James either.

Yeah...getting Flutie on Thursday night with no other option is a horrible plight.

Craig James for three friggin' hours? I can't stand him for the 5 minutes before/after the game (I try not to watch him at halftime if I have a choice) let alone an entire game. He's right up there with Trev Alberts when it comes to the worst of the worst of college football commentators.

Flutie is Craig James' lacky which means besides listening to Fowler, those three hours will be absolutely insufferable.

I agree, James has worn out his welcome. He from the Joe Theismen school of broadcasting. I would much rather for Little Doug & coach Coker do the Thursday night game with Fowler. Could be worth watching.

Oh god, can it be any worse? Larry Flags calling games for ESPN now? They might as well get a chimp out there and get the same effect.

I wonder if he'll throw Flutie under the bus if they get low ratings?
