Default Holmgren will return in 2008...

He has one year left on his contract and told Seattle brass he's up for another run.

Good move for Holmgren? Good move for Seattle?

Holmgren? Meh, why not finish out the contract. As for Seattle, why not just cut him loose if they have no intentions of extending his deal? Seattle is probably not far needing a roster overhaul on offense in the near future anyway.

Shaun Alexander's days as an elite back appear to be over.

Hasselbeck is 32.

Their top receiver, Bobby Engram, is 35.

Marcus Pollard, the starting TE turns 36 in a couple of weeks.

Walter Jones just turned 34.

So, I guess, why not keep Holmgren around another year and then bring in someone else to remake the offense?

Holmgren's a good coach... I don't think he has all of the right pieces surrounding him. Hasslebeck is not the answer

Yeah, the Seahawks are pretty stagnant. Clearly not a Super Bowl-contending team, but wild card-capable. I guess Holmgren wants to give it one last chance.

Wild-card capable?

Haven't they won the NFC West five years in a row?

And there's little if any reason to doubt they'll make it six straight in 2008.

As a Niner fan, it makes me sad to say it, but winning the west isn't much of an accomplishment Seattle doesn't have to be that good to win the west, I assume that's why they would be called wild card-capable.

Montrovant, are you ready to see the NFC West get owned by the NFC East next year?

If it wasn't for Joe Gibbs' Chris Webber moment against Buffalo, the NFC East would have gone 12-0 against the AFC East minus New England this year.

*sigh*

I'm ready, sadly. I've been getting used to the crappy play of the Niners for a while now

I think I'll blame TO as the straw that broke the camel's back

Good move for Seattle for all the reasons you guys said. Lets face - that is one of the worst divisions in the NFL so Seattle is pretty much a lock to win the division. So they definetly get in the post-season... if Seattle can catch a few brakes (more than being spotted 14 points in the first 2 minutes of a game) then who knows what could happen?

well, the niners are going to draft James Hardy and have a good solid rest of the draft...

if nolan doesnt make playoffs next year, then he's out and singletary is in!!!!!

I know the Patriots have the 9ers 1st round pick (#7 overall) - do the 9ers have anyone's #1??

The Colts.

But the Niners need more than just a WR though. Their pass rush is fairly non-existent and the secondary is rally nothing special. Honestly, Patrick Willis is the only defensive player to really get excited about on the Niners.
