Default Andy Pettitte to Boston?

Anyone think Boston has a chance of signing him? I wish! I think the Yankees will retain him. But I would love to see him pitch for Boston or go to Houston. Can he hit?

I'd be very, very surprised to see Boston end up with him. Last I heard, Houston was clearing the decks money-wise (by trading Billy Wagner) so that they could take a run at signing him.

It's a bargaining ploy, plain and simple...

I think Boston will allow the idea to be floated, whether by them or by Pettite's agent, but I don't think anyone is making a serious run at him that isn't in Houston or named Steinbrenner.

It would be interesting, however, to see what could be done to get him pitching in Arlington. If Boston could swing a deal with Texas in which Boston signed Pettite, and then swung him and ptnls to Texas for A-Rod... with the intent of sending Nomar out west in exchange for pitching... Washburn, maybe?

That'd burn the boss but good...

I think this would be the only reason Pettite would sign with Boston. The sign and trade scenario makes quite a bit of sense to me.

Pettitte will go back to the Yankees. It's a bargaining ploy that he seeks Boston just to drive his price up. Just like when Bernie Williams was "supposedly" going to go to the BoSox, then the Yanks signed him to a multi year contract.
