Default greatest athletes (present)

if yall are into it i say we make a competition to see who the greatest athlete is right now. say i put kordell stewart as the best athlete right now that would give him 10 poinst 2nd would be 9 points and so on. i can keep track of the points. Anyway here are my top 10 athletes of right now.

1. Derrick Jeter (i hate the yankees but i think he's great)

2. Zeine Zidane (I put a soccer player this high b/c it is the world's sport, and you have got to watch this guy dribble. it is out of this world like the ball is attached to his foot.)

3. Michael Phelps (if the olympics wern't around i probaly wouldn't of but swimming is a world round sport and he dominates)

4. Lance Armstrong ( he is great but it seems like all the great cyclers were all in a differnt era or maybe he's that good)

5. Kobe (still has a chance to be jordan-like now that he has his own team. I think his best years are yet to come... individual wise.)

6. Shaq ( I hate him but he is just unstoppable inside)

7. Oscar De La Hoya (gotta through a boxer in b/c i love the sport and he has held so many tittles at differnt weight classes. astonishing if beats Hopkins b/c that is a weight way to high for him)

8. Peter Forsburg (many people probaly think he doesn't belong but he is so skillfull with the puck. by far best in the NHL and hockey is a tough sport

9.Ray Lewis (makes a football game so much better when you see a guy with this much intensity which is why i think he tops Urlacher)

10. Mike Vick (most explosive player in the game)

honorable mention A-rod, Urlacher, Theirry Henry

P.S. you don't no how many times i changed this list around, it took me a good 35 miniutes

D. Jeter is the #1 athlete right now....?

Ummm..........

Ok, 'bird, I'll make an appearance in this thread again when I have a bit of time to put up some realistic thoughts on the topic, but I just HAD to pop in to question your judgement.

Shaq? Shaq's not an athlete. He's just this big huge monster. His athletic skill is nothing special.

I think Shaq is pretty athletic for a big guy, atleast in his prime he was, but to be considered a top rate athlete, nah, that's just not possible. His force and power dominate his sports persona, so I'm leaning with Mike on that one.

I don't think we have to many first rate athletes on the scale of the ones we had in the past right now. I'd pick out a track and field guy, but so many of them are on the juice, I won't bother. I could say Kobe, for his athletic gifts, but he has no clue how to use those gifts to fit HIS SPORT, so no. That and the fact he is the world's biggest ass&*%#.

I think you have your "atheletes" mixed with your "sports stars"

Jeter?. Phelps was fantastic, but Thorpe didn't let him dominate. Shaq/Kobe? lol if we are talking atheletes, you should be ashamed to put them in the same bracket as Armstrong, who I don't regard as the best cyclist of all time. Best Tour De France rider of all time yes.

Welcome, Spahn and Sain!

Very diverse, thoughtful list you have there. I have to confess that I'm not sure who Shawn Crawford or Lisa Fernandez.

Fernandez is a softball pitcher...

Crawford was the hyped 100m dasher who lost to his training mate in the final. I liked his training mate better.

Thanks Kevin. I'm glad to be here.

Yeah, Justin Gatlin's pretty sweet, but Crawford did win the 200M and is a complete beast. It's a travesty that he's not playing RB or linebacker in the NFL right now. Lisa Fernandez is by far the most dominant women's softball player in history.

It was crazy not adding people like Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam, Serena Williams or Shaq, but it seems most sports these days lack a clear-cut best player. Not to take anything away from those stars, but if I put Tiger on the list, then Vijay, Ernie and Phil have to be on there, etc. It's a testament to the athletic community, specialization and overall hard work, that there is this much parity in team and individual sports.

Welcome, Spahn and Sain! :wavey:

Interesting name you have there.

I think your list is good, but no way could I ever go along with a racecar driver as No. 1 ... they're not really even athletes. And Michael Vick is so overrated, it's not even funny. Aside from upsetting the Packers at Lambeau (errr), he has only shown flashes of brilliance. I think this is so hard because it depends on what criteria you use.
