Default ESPN/USA Today Preseason Top 25

ESPN released its first poll of the season and Kansas tops the list followed by three ACC squads Wake, UNC, and Ga Tech. The ACC had the most teams in the top 25 with six of the top 19 teams as Duke, Maryland, and NC State also made the list. Michgan State at number 10 is the highest ranked team that did not finish last season in the top 25.

Kentucky at No. 9. Not bad, just about where we belong. By March, we should be top-five, IMO. I can't wait for the season! Already got two student zone tickets for their first home games ... I get to be screaming and jumping up and down behind the basket.

Florida is way better than that. They have a dang good team. Last year we had a bunch of young players but they've got a year under their belt now. Of course they could always flop and not reach their potential.

That is probably why they are ranked a lot lower this year. If memory serves they were ranked pretty high the past couple of years going intot the season and they struggled a bit early on. It looks as though maybe Donovan has lost some of that karma he earned from getting to the Final Four a few years back.

Do you guys feel #12 is the appropriate spot for Duke?

After their amazing season last year, did St. Joe's lose a bunch of players resulting in their receiving only 2 votes for the top 25?

I must do a little more research myself before I can offer an opinion, but I thought I'd throw my points to ponder out to everyone else I'm pumped that it's almost basketball season!

What? Do you think they should be higher or lower? I think 12 is probably about right. Shavlik Randolph is finally healthy, looked good in the tournament last spring and looks as though he may finally be ready to have a big season for Duke. They also still have Shelden Williams, JJ Reddick, and Daniel Ewing. The thing they will have to get over is getting used to Dockery running the point. He had a pretty strong March off the bench as well. Once he settles in Duke should be just fine.

I'll agree, doublee. I think #12 is appropriate, especially since they'll be getting used to a new point guard running the show. I'm sure by March, they'll have moved up, but it will take them a while to earn that higher ranking. I was just trying to get some discussion going with my previous question.

There is also the fact that Ga-Tech returns something like 6 of their top seven players and Wake returns everyone from last year's team and UNC managed to hang onto Marvin Williams who will add some serious depth. While Duke lost Duhon and Deng and Shaun Livingston decided to go pro. Duke may take a slight step back just due to the continuity of UNC, Wake, Ga-Tech, and Maryland returns almost everyone from its Championship team as well.

They lost Jameer Nelson and West, who basically accounted for 80-percent of St. Joe's success last season, hence the drop out of the preseason poll.

We'll find out how good St. Joe is this week when they take on the No. 1 team in the nation, the Kansas Jayhawks.

Have I mentioned that yet on the board, who the number one team in the nation is right now? Because if I haven't, it's the Jayhawks.

That's right, KU, No. 1.

Best team in the nation, the Kansas Jayhawks.

That is all.

I like the Jayhawks alot also. losts of returning starters, a star player, pretty deep, and solid all around. I also like Jarret Jack and the gang at GT.

That didn't last long Wake takes the top spot in both polls this week. Guess that's what happens when you squeak by Vermont in your home opener.
