Default Series 7: San Jose (3) vs. Phoenix (6)

The 'Yotes make their return to the playoffs against the San Jose Sharks, who have improved in the NHL standings ever since they came into the league. This year is no different as they finally overtook Dallas for the Pacific Division, while scoring 99 points in the standings, losing a tiebreaker to Colorado for 2nd in the overall Western standings.

This should be an exciting, offensive series -- discuss it here.

The Sharks should finally move in the playoffs. They're my pick in this round.

They're also my pick. They can win it over the Coyotes for sure.

Thumbs up Lee's Bottom Line

LEE'S BOTTOM LINE

Here's a sneak peak of tomorrow's NHL preview article that will appear on the SC mainsite (please forgive me -- not proofread just yet )

Western Quarter Final: (3) San Jose Sharks vs. (6) Phoenix Coyotes

No one gave the Coyotes a chance at the start of the season, but they didn't live up to those low "expectations." Meanwhile, the Sharks were predicted to finally overtake Dallas as the Pacific Division champs, and they did live up to the hype. This results in what should be an exciting series as the overachieing Desert Dogs take on the Swimming Sharks. Burke is soley responsible for the Coyotes high finish. However, the Sharks, after being disappointingly knocked out early last season, are more mature and are ready to take the next step and contend for the Western title. While the Coyotes showed no ill effects of the losses of Jeremey Roenick and Keith Tkachuk, fans will witness why you need those players come playoff time.

Bottom Line: The Sharks, like it or not, are now one of the serious contenders in the West. Sharks in 5.

Im picking Phoenix to win because of the Gretzkey factor Burke has been playing well and I just like the way that they are playing lately.

It's too bad this is a West Coast series, because it's probalby the fastest-paced and going to be the most exciting series out of any of them -- in the West at least. These teams are very evenly matched and we saw that this afternoon after a 2-1 SJS to open the series, they split it heading home after a 3-1 win in game two.

This is a good series with lots of scoring and goaltending. Too bad I won't see any of it.

Go Sharks!

San Jose won Game #3 yesterday in Phoenix in front of a "white out" at America West Arena, a tradition started in Winnipeg. Let me give ya the history! -- in 1987, the Jets played the Flames in the first round of the playoffs. The Flames tried to get their fans to wear all red, creating a "Sea of Red" in the stands. It never really worked out that well so the next game the Jets told their fans to wear all white, creating the white-out still known today in Phoenix as the "Sea of White." The Jets ended up winning that series but since 1987, have NEVER WON A PLAYOFF SERIES.

I remember those days in Winnipeg... the white-outs... the noisest arena EVER in the NHL, topping even the ol' Chicago Stadium . . . almost makes ya want to cry . . . . . . *sniffiles*

errrrrr.... annnnyways.... ya so the Coyotes served grilled shark at their arena restaurant. Unfortunately, after the game, it was the Sharks grilling the 'Yotes, winning by 3 goals. If anything, I hope the Coyotes don't win this series just so they can continue to feel Winnipeg's pain. :redhot:

I like the Sharks a lot as a team; they are very good. Phoenix isn't my favorite team, the Sharks can win two more and the series.

Lee: get over it. The days of Winnipeg are long over.

But that sounds like a cool idea with fans wearing the same color. I bet it creates a killer energy and atmosphere; a feeling of cohesion. Sometimes they do that in the NBA, give fans free shirts to wear.
