Default 2007 NFL Draft Running Thread

Who's ready for the draft tomorrow?! I figure it'd be fun to have a running thread as the picks start flowing in. SC's Matt Thomas has an excellent mock draft to get your juices flowing: https://www.sports-central.org/sport...al_release.php

With the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft, the Oakland Raiders select...

JaMarcus Russell? We'll see. Last year we thought the Texans would take Reggie, and we all know what resulted....

Can't wait to see if the Bucs trade up for Calvin Johnson...

I can't believe it's time for the draft again, already.

I feel about JaMarcus Russell pretty much how I felt about Vince Young a year ago.
While the Titans went on to win behind VY, I don't know if he really did anything to dispel my beliefs. He's been pretty mediocre, thus far, and is getting by the way that Vick does: with his feet.

Russell doesn't quite have VY's speed, but has a Vick-like arm. I think he's a bust. But, I confess to knowing much less than I used to know.

There seems to be a view out there to the effect that JaMarcus Russell may turn out to have a better overall career than Brady Quinn, but that Quinn is the more polished product and will have more immediate impact.

Meanwhile, I feel sorry for whoever the Eagles draft on the first day in general, and in the first round in particular - because they most likely won't start until they're 30 years old or very close to it, being picked to replace some current player who will be an "expensive" free agent in about five years.

After all, it's more important to be a "contender" in 2012 than to win a Super Bowl in 2007 (actually February of 2008, but you get the idea).

**keeps fingers crossed that Joe Staley will drop to #23 for Kansas City**

The Palm Beach Post reported on Friday that a trade for Trent Green to the Dolphins should be completed before the end of the NFL draft weekend, with Kansas City possibly settling for Miami's fourth-round pick, according to John Clayton.

You mean like Todd Herremans, Shawn Andrews, Reggie Brown, Brodrick Bunkley, Mike Patterson, Matt McCoy, Trent Cole, Omar Gaither, and Sean Considine? All were drafted in the last two or three years and are starters or see significant playing time. And, I seem to remember that Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard, L. J. Smith, and Michael Lewis were in the starting lineup within by the time they were 25 or 26, so I am not sure what the basis for your statement is.

ESPN is reporting this morning that Russell will be the guy for Oakland after a deal with the the Browns fell through.

It looks like Russell being the number one pick is a done deal.

I was hoping Cleveland would take RB Adrian Peterson. Oh well! Maybe the Redskins will.

Why would the 'Skins take Peterson? They already have Portis and Betts.

Peterson will probably go to either Minnesota or Houston.

Internet resources:

www.nfl.com has live tv and radio webcasts. I'm surprised they're not charging for this

cbs.sportsline.com has the most in-depth player summaries I've found for free

I was a bit surprised at the direction the Falcons went. I figured they would go with Okoye who was Petrino's guy at Louisville. They probably could have traded down a few spots and still gotten Anderson.

I think everyone's having trouble trading down... nobody wants to move up

Did anyone see Brady Quinn's face when Miami took Ginn? That was priceless

Yeah, pretty funny. I wonder if Buffalo is interested or if Quinn will fall farther than that
